Technology is fantastic, the Face ID makes it so easy to get in, get merch, and get food. Sight lines are great. Food, I think is meh. There is only one food vendor for the entire arena, so no matter where you go, it’s the same food (with the exception of the suites).

I’ve been to five games so far. This is a lot more than I thought but the reason I’ve gone to so many games so far is because the ticket prices are pretty cheap. Granted, I’ve only sat in the upper deck, but even those seats are not bad at all. Much better than Staples/Crypto. I usually pay around $30 per ticket (including fees). I’ve sat in the Wall section, pretty neat to be around only Clippers fans. However, I’ve noticed that only about 65%-75% of the Wall is occupied during the games that I’ve been to. Most games I’ve gone to are mid week, but I’ve been to Saturday night game and it was not close to being full. So that’s pretty depressing.

Some tips/observations

  1. get a parking lot app (I use parkwhiz). Much cheaper parking! Usually pay $17-$20 for parking in a structure that is only a block to the north of Intuit and it’s not even close to full so getting in and out is simple. If there is a game atSofi the parking prices go up around the area.
  2. If you plan on going to more than one game this season, get the Intuit Dome re-fillable cup for $10. The fountain machines are out in the concourse areas and to re-fill your soda, you can just use those. ALSO, you can bring that same cup to future games and get free re-fills. So you don’t have to pay for drinks for future games, just bring the same re-fillable cup.
  3. They usually have pretty good “deal of the game” merch. If you are going to purchase, do it early because they can run out. For one game they had a hoodie for $25 and I didn’t want to carry it around for the whole game, so I thought I would buy it after the game, but they ran out of them.
  4. Not much half time entertainment. The games I’ve been to there have been a DJ, little kids playing basketball, the Clippers Spirit doing a routine, some early 90’s singer who had one semi-hit (forgot her name, but I remembered the song). Not that a big deal, but I miss the lady on the UniCycle who would catch plates and bowls on her head =)
  5. Usually only one t-shirt toss a game.
  6. Halo Board is out of this world. Sometimes I have to remind myself to watch the actual game on the court instead of watching the Halo Board.

The place is all ours, it’s awesome, need more people to come out to watch a game or two (or ten).

Ayton is just not a good matchup for Zu. He’s slightly quicker and more mobile, and he can also hit the midrange shot. Ayton is an inconsistent player (at best), but he seems to relish playing against Zu.

We know this all too well, of course, going back to the Suns/Conference Finals matchup. Zu has come a long way and has been getting a lot more minutes and touches and building on his strengths, and Harden has made Zu a much stronger force.

When you look at the Clippers and their recent games, Zu punched Rudy Gobert in the mouth in the narrow loss to MIN, then he was had an offbeat night against Jokic (understandable, of course) in the big win against Denver. The Clips took care of business against POR, but Zu wasn’t as effective, especially on defense. He’ll be happy to be done with Ayton, I expect. See how Zu fares against Gobert and MIN. No Norm in the game last week, but it will be hard for Zu to match the way he carved up Gobert.

The TMann injury is a drag, and it could very easily cost the Clippers a couple games, but having an opening in the rotation might make them a little stronger in the long run. TMann was just heating up and pushing into his role, and he will be missed.

Lots to ponder. Presents an immediate question, as we’ll see if KPJ comes back tonight against MIN (will ponder this further in the other thread). If he doesn’t, Bones should get a rotation sniff. Have to see if he can do anything with it. He’s been underwhelming in his garbage time minutes, and he seems to be well outside the identity that the team is forming. We got to see the value of the 3pt shooting last night, and Bones can add to that and handle the ball as well as KPJ. It would be good to establish his value and a role for him as a way to keep Harden from getting run down–but the upcoming openings in the schedule should help with that.

Shoot right, but I always preferred shooting layups left handed (which Norm rarely does). Part of that may have been being “right legged,” getting more solid lift off my right leg. Tennis right-handed, ping pong left handed. Most importantly, I write (and eat) left handed. (And I might add that I write longhand, and I’m a bit of a zealot about it–I only write-type on this blog and on emails.) And I would never call myself left-handed. Maybe “sort of left handed.”

Previous Clipper who was right-left was the immortal Kaveman, Chris Kaman. Developed his sweet righty jumper, but he shot all his layups and finished at the rim left handed. 13 NBA season, 19642 mins, 14661 of them as a Clipper. 09-10 All Star, when he averaged 18.5/9.3. 8208 pts, 5582 rebs, 931 blks, 48.9 fg%. Made one career 3, in his final season.

I can’t say enough good things about Norm. He is a sensational shooter who doesn’t hog the ball. He’s a leader.

Bad break for TMann. Just when he finds himself, he breaks his middle finger. Next man up.

JMiller is growing by leaps and bounds, and I agree with others. He looks like he’s in slow motion, and the basket loves him. His soft shot falls the right way nearly every time.

Will Cam or Trentyn get some playing time while TMann and Kobe are out?

Harden
Norm (shoots right handed)
Coffey
DDJ
KPJ
Miller

Considering only 7% of the general population is this LH is kind of crazy. Did I forget anyone?

He looks like he’s in slow motion and always seems to make the defender commit and then exploit the gap. He has the trademark attributes of a great scorer in the league (not just a good one). If you play him 24 minutes, he’s going to hit at least 15 points a night.
