It’s a blog. It’s casual. Not only do we not require writers to adhere to AP style, but we encourage them to diverge from it so that the blog has personality. The AP does their job pretty well. I think it’s good for us to have our own niche instead of trying to be them. Roughness around the edges is the tradeoff and having done much stricter formatting in my academic work for conferences and publication, I can say that I much prefer the relaxed vibe.

As a college instructor, I would tell anyone who thinks “vs” instead of “vs.” is “foolishly illiterate” needs to get over themselves

Just trying to be helpful, Lucas. It’s your site, but I personally would be far more concerned that my content not appear foolishly illiterate for all posterity to see on the Wayback Machine than whether or not a correctly placed period might interrupt a few searches. See other online sports journalism on New York Times, ESPN, The Atlantic, for god's sake even SB Nation. As a college instructor, do you overlook basic punctuation in papers submitted by students? I attempted to engage in a conversation about such things via Patreon but have received no response.
