The falloff from Ralph Lawler to this cornball has been ridiculous! Prior to Ballervision….all games were completely muted!

The team was down 18 in second half.
Roco only fielded in last two minutes of 3rd.
Clearly, Lue preferred Mook ?!?
Mook 32 minutes -1
Roco 17 minutes +10
Lue rotated not to win with Mook over Roco.
So Doc. So Vinny. That wuz justifiable prosecution had Clips lost.
Memories of Trez over Zu in the bubble vs Jokic who said plenty of Doc’s non adjustments in the series. Ditto for PG.

On the bright side, Diabate was a revelation. Props to Lue for playing him. Norm, Nico, Reggie, Dan Craig’s strat on Simons!!!

Diabaté was impressive. Just 20 years old?! RoCo was fantastic. Why was he nailed to the bench again? RoCo and Batum are terrors on defense. Can’t say enough about Reggie other than that he’ll have a statue in front of the Intuit Dome. No need to mention Powell. Bonehead turnovers were way down (maybe a function of PG and Wall being out). Just a really satisfying win.

And that when we get them (and Luke) back, it will be the team everyone kinda sorta expected? Is it possible that Powell is actually as good as first advertised? He’s now being mentioned in the 6MOY conversation, but I think he may prove to be more than that. This is getting interesting.

I think this victory is all about Reggie Jackson’s grit and toughness. He took a brutal hard fall to the ground when Nurkic jumped into him on a made layup (with no foul call, which was total bs). He looked dazed and confused, but came back to play almost the entire 2nd half, scored 24 points, took charges, drove into the lane, made every key pass and found the hot hands and optimal shots. The post-Lob City era Clips have been about toughness and grit and straight up clutch balling. Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley and Reggie Jackson represent the identity of this post lob city era.

Norm Powell made me want to pull my hair out in the first half with his bad shots and turnovers that seemed to lead to Blazer 3s and layups at the other end. But then, when he got space after Billups took Nurkic out of the game (really Chauncey, you let Powell get hot and stay hot that long and didn’t recognize it was because there were no big bodies in the middle to slow Norm down?), Norm lit the Moda Center on fire. When he’s playing in space and there are no physical bigs in the area, he can get white hot and just rain buckets.

I don’t really like Ty Lue’s obsession with small ball, but the reason it worked today is because Billups made several bad moves to go small when the Clips couldn’t handle Nurkic, and I have to grudgingly agree with Lue’s implicit assessment that Zu was not winning his matchup with Nurkic, and Diabate’s few minutes against Nurk provided a change of pace that somewhat neutralized the big guy. I still can’t believe the Clips won a small ball game with Terance Mann not really being on the floor in the key stretch.

Diabate provided that burst of athletic presence in a big frame that helped the Clips win a lot of possessions and allowed the guards to play up a bit more on Simons and Grant (who began to tire after shooting the lights out). I think he might have earned the backup center job. He may be a near perfect fit for Ty Lue’s small ball tendencies.

At the end of the day, Reggie and Norm took 39 shots tonight as compared to the Denver game when they each took less than 10. That’s really the difference in the game. Both can have some ragged stretches but the more aggressive they are, the more shots they take, the more the defense is put into scramble mode and the Clips start generating 2nd shots, put backs, and spacing for assists. For example, Batum only made 1 shot but that was a huge late 3 in Q4 after Reggie drove into the paint, lost and regained control of the ball, caused the defense to collapse and scramble and then hit Batum in rhythm for a makable 3. When Reggie’s/Norm’s shots start falling it has a big multiplier effect on overall offensive output.

If Moussa keeps developing like this, we might have this French Connection of a frontcourt for our Small Ball unit: Reggie, KL, PG, Nic and Moussa. Of course, just one game, and Ralph would be saying: “Settle Down Mike Smith!”
Freaking Norm! Holy Cow — they couldn’t stop him from getting to the basket.
Bad shooting night by Mook, but still had a big shot in the 4th and a bigger assist to Norm in the corner.
Another great showing by GREAT REGGIE! As a very emotional player, it is awesome to see him totally pumped and engaged. But, a lot of help from Terance in the 1st half — it is critical for Terance to bring up the ball so that Reggie can have some gas for the 2nd half.

Might have cost us stealing this one.

I like Dame and all but this is pathetic of TNT to try to inject some star power into this with a sideline interview.
