I’d rather have the Lakers picks than those Toronto picks too. They have no tradable picks left, which means if things go south they are completely screwed and can’t do anything. Toronto will likely not be all that bad in the years we own their picks and they’d be able to use their draft capital to bail themselves out.

The big mis-step was the Paul George trade, but that was under duress and honestly Presti playing hard ball that much on it could have backfired. He got lucky the Clippers didn’t walk away from that dumb deal. There’s been a few bad picks, but most were later and every team does that including OKC who ppl think always hit when in reality they just have had so many picks.

I do think PG is going to have a solid bounce back year for the Celtics though. Feels like the Celtics way overpaid vs. market value, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t really have a drop off at all with PG instead of Brown. Just depends I guess if PG can stay healthy and hopefully views himself as like at least the 2nd option and plays more aggressive. Always felt like he played himself into being the 3rd or 4th option on the 76ers. PG needs to get back to playing like he’s the 1B to Kawhi/Tatum 1A.

Clippers got a good package for Kawhi. They now have 9 future first round picks and some cap space.

Kawhi tried to screw the team one more time, but credit L Frank with squeezing Toronto for those unprotected 2030s first round picks, and getting a few more assets thrown into the deal.

The Clipper guard rotation looks very deep, solid and versatile. They need major help at the 4/5. That’s where the FO’s focus needs to be.

That’s the problem with JB. Sure the 76ers are probably better, but if they’re not a contender with him, what are they doing? Going to lock him into like a $350M extension? Sadly feels like the end of the Clippers 213 era. Hoping your star is healthy, shifting around “stars”, but basically running it back with a goal of making it to the 2nd round or with some injury luck maybe the conference finals. At least the Clippers didn’t lock in PG to like a max extension, because that’s what the 76ers are facing now with JB.

Just listening to Windhorst and Bobby Marx and McMahon in an emergency pod on the trade. Windy thinks that Boston was “under duress”–that J Brown was on some sort of warpath before, during, and after the Giannis sweepstakes, but especially after Boston didn’t get it done–which looks really lame now–and they had to get him off the team and get something back before the musical chairs of free agency stopped.

It’s hilarious that Boston now has PG’s contract. This is great for Philly–Brown is a star who complements Maxey and Edgcombe. They’ll get great value (and availability) out of Brown and can pay him an extension, which would kick in around the time time that the Embiid deal finally ends.

The advantage for Boston is that there are only two years left on PG’s deal, and after that they won’t have salary commitments. Their team is suddenly not nearly as good, but they might get lucky with PG (as Toronto might get lucky with Kawhi), and one reason why the trade seems semi-viable is that PG was functioning and part of the reason why PHI came back from 1-3 and eliminated the Celts.

Eager to hear Simmons and all the Ringers chime in. Tough result for Boston. They obviously should have put Gonzalez or Schiermann in the Giannis deal–but then they’d be paying a banged up Giannis a massive extension. They’d be a lot better right now though.

I can’t say that I want Kawhi or PG to get tweaked and become unavailable on their new teams, but I kinda sort of want something not to go smoothly, let’s say. The dark PG start and his tenure in Philly have been very satisfying. This is an interesting turn of events.

Feels like the divorce was inevitable. Clearly Jaylen wanted to move on. Been reports all week that the market for Jaylen wasn’t great. Think Boston was hoping someone would step up to the plate. I think they’re banking on a PG having a bounce back year and maybe flip him, or hope he can replicate a lot of what Jaylen brought while getting some solid assets.

I would’ve thought the 76ers would have to give up a pick to get off of PG though. So the fact that the Celtic had to take that contract AND only got 2 picks is kind of crazy. I’ve never been a big Jaylen Brown guy, but he is coming off a career year. After trading Kawhi, I’m glad the Clippers didn’t talk themselves into Jaylen Brown as a replacement. Last thing I’d want is his $70M extension on the books for a Clippers team with no shot at competing.
