Definitely a disappointing pick. What’s funny is he came from the 1st rounder included in the Philly deal with Tobias, which got sent to Brooklyn. Then that pick got sent to Detroit for Landry Shamet. So Shamet and a pick got traded together for Tobias, then in a roundabout way, got traded for each other.

1st round picks are so valuable in trades, it’s just really disappointing to use it on a guy that doesn’t pan out when you could’ve probably used it on a proven solid player. I mean the pick they traded for Fi was eventually traded for Kennard, so Clips could’ve had Kennard and kept Shamet, or a used the pick for another proven similar rotation player.

I just hope the buyout market realizes something good, even if it’s just a solid emergency 3rd string player.

I agree with you on Wilcox. He was good. But I was furious that we drafted two of the same guy that year (Ely). Either was ok in a vacuum if they used the other pick on something else.

Wonder if it’s for a buy out player/s
Or to take extra salary in a trade?
Could we in theory use it the difference to just outbid another team for 1 buyout player? So that the player makes an extra mil or whatever to sign with us?

Chris Wilcox was actually a decent player, could we have drafted better yeah , but he wasn’t a complete whiff I don’t think.
Wonder if oturu is understanding this pattern and decides to train and practice his ass off before he’s next

Fi just following in the footsteps of all the great big men drafted by the Clippers, like Melvin Ely, Chris Wilcox, Diamond Stone, Trey Thompkins, and Brice Johnson.

In all seriousness though, Fi, like Jerome, seemed like a really nice dude, and it isn’t his fault he got drafted where he did. I hope he finds a way to turn it around on some rebuilding teams and who knows, maybe someday he can make his way back here once he puts it all together.

2 yrs in a row of whiffs is rough. Fi might have actually been an even worse whiff than Jerome, given that the Clips wasted future assets to get him. At least Jerome was just a reach – Fi was a reach that the Clips went out of their way to reach for.
