Assuming that Kawhi is out for the whole regular season and playoffs, and the spotlight is on other teams, the Clippers have a nice opportunity to play free and loose. Assuming that we stay healthy, do you guys think that we can make it back to the WCF?

Worrying about Kawhi’s “camp”: This harkens back to the Spurs saga. Every wealthy NBA superstar has a “camp”: lawyers, accountants, agent, family (“Uncle Dennis”), friends, assorted hangers-on. The Clippers and Kawhi had a contract drawn up some time ago. Frank and Clippers lawyers probably motored over to Kawhi’s new 11,815 square-foot home in Pacific Palisades and signed the contract. This took several days, during which time some Clippers fans freaked out for no good reason.

Maybe, if it was a more serious injury like an Achilles, but ACL repair is very common, and the only issue is how much time needed for a full recovery. Top players like KD and Kahwi have all of the leverage against teams, even when injured, to get the best FA contract. KL will come back fully healthy, and hopefully help us win our first Championship.

The delay makes me suspect he was mulling over and probably will sign a 4-year deal due to his injury. I suspect the injury is pretty serious and he won’t play all of next season. If he was confident about a quick recovery and joining the playoffs, the 1+1 would be a no-brainer.

This was always a done deal. Nobody did anything wrong. It’s taking a few days because that’s how long it’s taking. Probably because it was always a done deal and there was no reason to rush. I don’t know why so many people are reading nonsense into this.

It’s frustrating, but this just seems like this is how Kawhi operates. Seems like he’s really not into making the headline and “committing” to a team during the moratorium.

I seriously think he just is at home not talking to anyone during the moratorium, then walks into the Clipper offices the day he can sign a contract, and puts pen to paper, and goes on his way.

Was he really weighing other options… I guess no one will ever know, but definitely I think expecting anything coming from him or his camp before the day he can sign the contract is probably overly optimistic.

If KL sits out the entire year, it will be a developmental year (but, we still probably will make the Playoffs, if everyone stays healthy), but if KL comes back in April, and if we can continue to remain healthy, Clippers have a very good chance at returning to the WCF and winning.
Lots of questions for next year.
Can the Suns repeat their success from last year?
What is going to happen to the Lakers?
How are the Nuggets going to bounce back with a healthy Jamal Murray?
What is going to happen in Utah?
