Harden was always a good comp for Luka, but if anything Luka has better size for rebounding and defense, so I think has a higher ceiling. Luka has probably proven to be more of a killer in the Playoff than Harden. But yep, I think we saw similar struggles to go deep into the playoffs with Harden, until they got him some top end talent to bear some of the load with CP.

Oh I meant more as in they don’t seem to have a lot of muscle – it’s less about losing weight overall and more about gaining some muscle and losing…well, fat.

I mean I know not every NBA player is gonna be able to look like prime Dwight Howard, but there’s a lot inbetween that level of fitness and where Harden and Luka are at.

A bit late on the post but just want to jump in and say how satisfied I am that the Clips pulled this out. Yes it was more a relief than a hell yeah!. But this series, the last 10 or so days have been such a damn sweat it out gruesome ,grinding ,torturous ordeal. In the past the clips might not have pulled this out. And every series win is an accomplishment. So much better to win this than lose it in G7 an endure the “same old clippers” narrative. Was so frustrating early in the series to watch the Mavs drain all those 3s,and conversely the clips missing seemingly all their open 3s,just knowing that this wasnt right and that clips were getting shafted by the hoops gods, and the Sterling curse was still lurking. Finally finally finally the probabilities swung the way they should have and the 3 pt shooting showed up for the clips, with record 20 3s!. Great for all to see that K L was still the best player on the court. So happy that Mann and Kennard got a chance and both delivered. and yes so happy Lue gave them a chance, we all know Doc never would have done that. Lets go clips, on to round 2! bracing myself….

I think the strength is essential for them, honestly. I think losing weight would reduce effectiveness.

What a weird coincidence that the two prototypes for the heliocentric offense w/ insane usage rates for stars are both dudes who aren’t exactly the greatest physical specimens in Harden and Luka.

My only take away from Luka as far as improvement, is I think he needs to get into amazing shape. I think he wore down every game, and over the series.

On slightly a different level, but I remember Blake struggled early in his career to with how much effort he could give to save himself for the playoffs and the 4th quarters of each game. In Blake’s case it was more about how much energy he exerted as he was jumping out of the gym from the tip. In Luka’s case, I think it’s more about conditioning himself to be able to play long playoff minutes.

Obviously having more talent around him that could take a bit of the load off of him would probably work wonders as well. I think his usage in this series was over 40%, which by far led the league. I’m not sure that usage rate for 40 minutes a night is sustainable, even for the best conditioned athletes.
