I don’t believe the big ones were telegraphed. Paul George and Blake came out of nowhere. Piddling signings yes, but nothing major. Harden is major.

I think Harden could be a great fit. Mann is good, but a great bench player at best. Russ, Harden, Kawhi, PG, Zu would be scary. what harden lacks in defense, Westbrook can make up. and same goes for Westbrook on offense. I wanna see it!

Clippers should just let this drag out. Russ and Kawhi are jelling. A better option would be to trade for Jerami Grant in January. Morris, Coffey, Brown and a 1st for Grant should be enticing for the Blazers.

This is great. Your stuff is always well reasoned. I think a few things are clouding our perception of where we’re at. The last memories we have of last season were PG in street clothes and Kawhi having knee surgery. While that’s tough to unsee it’s entirely likely that they should be good to go and playing at a high level still. Russ has been so unfairly smeared because things didn’t work well with king James and the Lakers so now he’s been relegated to this kind of clown figure when he could still be a serious 3rd star on this team. Throw in plumlee, a full season of NH and Kj and this is still a team to be reckoned with. The other hate around here that I don’t get is toward Norm. He was fantastic as an impact scorer in the playoffs yet folks are like “he’s a bum!”

I think we can win a lot of games as is and if we land Harden then that only boosts things more.

I’m good with whatever. But we’ll still be good even if we don’t make that trade.

I’m gonna try to explain my thought process as simply as possible by making essentially a flow chart.

Step 1: Do you believe 213 will be healthy when the playoffs roll around? If yes, then go to Step 3. If no, then go to Step 2.
Step 2: We fucked. Don’t trade anything of long-term value (including Mann and picks) for Harden. This is the last hurrah of the 213 era and probably Ty and Frank – we should wipe the slate clean for the move to Intuit.
Step 3: Do you think Harden will be able to improve our regular season record to get us to a top 3-4 seed? If yes, go to Step 4. If no, go back to Step 2.
Step 4: Do you think Harden, Russ, and 213 make us a legit threat to Denver? If yes, go to Step 5. If no, go back to Step 2.
Step 5: If you’ve made it this far, you clearly believe adding Harden to 213 and Russ gives us a real shot (re: not just a puncher’s chance) at the title. Do what needs to be done to get him here.

My problem is my answer to Step 1 is always a “no.” I appreciate everyone else who thinks we should go after Harden and thinks it’s madness to hold onto Mann, but I feel like the only valid reason to actually give up Mann and other future assets is if you get all the way to Step 5. Like, if you think adding him just elevates us from 7 seed to 6 seed, then really, what’s the point? We’ve made a WCF (…while not being at full strength, unfortunately), so if you don’t think Harden actually gets at least back to that level, trading away assets for him and his declining abilities, expiring deal, and demands for a max contract don’t make a lot of sense.

All I really have left on my offseason wish-list at this point is trading away MM for whatever we can get for him, even if that’s just say a 2nd round pick (he is still ultimately an expiring contract, after all).

I think the vibes are good but the Clippers still seem to be trying to get the deal done
