The Clippers have signed Bryson Williams, the team tweets.

The rookie power forward out of Texas Tech went undrafted this year. He played five summer league games with the Heat.

Williams averaged 14.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 37 games last sesason with the Red Raiders.

It’s likely Williams will soon be waived and then join the Ontario Clippers, their G League affiliate. Williams would be eligible for a bonus up to $50K if he stays with that club for at least 60 days.

I was just about to post that maybe the Clips are waiting to see who gets waived. After seeing Bassey then Kemba (not they we’d want or need him), maybe they were just waiting to see who interesting is freed up. Or they may have their eyes on someone specific (perhaps Favors, perhaps someone else).

There’s no question that we will be a playoff team regardless, but I can’t see us as a 1/2/3 seed if we don’t at least remedy the rebounding. LeBron and AD are healthy and Pat is going to give them some more juice. They are sick of losing to us and it’s their home crowd so I can actually see us losing the opener. Then it’s back to back Sacramento/Phoenix. We’ve been vulnerable to fast young teams in this era and Phoenix will be ready to pounce for that game. Expecting 1-2 to start the season and won’t be surprised if 0-3. The FO better fix whatever is within their control and adding a vet center wouldn’t be the worst thing. We can open up roster spots later if need be by waiving or consolidation trade.

Just going down the list of rebounds/game leaders from last season, guys like Jokic and Gobert obviously aren’t available, guys like Drummond and Julius Randle have their own set of warts, and unless we’re trading for a star-level C, whoever we get would have to be able to play PF (i.e. we aren’t trotting out a Drummond + Zu lineup). The only guys I could see as at least semi-realistic possibilities would be Kuzma, John Collins, and Wendell Carter Jr.

I think Kuzma would be ideal, but I have no idea what kinds of offers the Wizards would get for him and/or what they’re looking for – they’re in a weird spot where they might not be rebuilding, but they aren’t contenders either. I’d love to pry away Rui Hachimura too if they’d rather ship him out than Kuzma, but that seems unlikely. Collins is also in a weird spot where the Hawks have (allegedly) been trying to move him for years, but I kinda doubt they would now that they appear to be all in after trading for Murray. I’d love to nab Wendell Carter, but Orlando may be unwilling to ship him out since he’s still young enough to fit their rebuilding timeline.

If there were an obvious upgrade to make via trade I can’t help but feel like the FO would’ve already made it – I’m guessing we’ll just have to sit tight until the trade deadline to see how things shake out.

The defensive rebounding got really ugly in some of last years games. I recall some sequences where the other team just kept getting so many second chances that it was downright embarassing. Rebounding takes pride, effort and heart. Rodman, tho completely quirky, excelled. Remember Clipper Reggie Evans? A superb rebounder. Kawhi will help but he’s not going to be an everyday player, far from it. As much as I love all our guys, I can definitely see some tweaking for an accomplished rebounder.
