According to Bobby Marks– If the Clippers make a big offer sheet for Denver’s Peyton Watson, the Clippers will have to renounce Benedict Mathurin’s qualifying offer. Yet if the Nuggets match the Clippers offer sheet for Peyton Watson, the Clippers will regain Bennedict Mathurin’s rights. Thus, the Clippers have nothing to lose if they make a big offer for Peyton Watson. So the Clippers have that option.

It might be anti-climatic to some if we just let Ben walk, get Baba at full contract, sign Nico back for another year, let the final spot open and wrap it up an offseason.
I’m a dreamer so I hope Wagler/Sanders/Miller/Yanic (when healthy) will have plenty of minutes to play. And if PF spot is up for grab, Baba is rising up and take it. Then you have Cam & Nick fill-in for those late game minutes.
If we’re still in the play-in mix throughout and play young guys lots of minutes, this will be a great season for me.

Teams are going to see a SG that shot 31% from 3 last year (21% for the Clippers) and just be out on him. I’ve always thought there is a real possibility he plays out this year on his QO and bets on himself as a UFA next summer. Clippers maybe would get a longer term deal done if a real bargain for them, but I bet this is a drawn out process, especially now that the JMill deal is done.

With your list of young guys needing minutes, the big one to me right now would be Baba. Do you just throw him into the fire and hope he floats? I suppose if you are prioritizing development and going to operate like a normal lottery team, then why not give these guys minutes?

At the same time, it’s fun watching good basketball and Clippers have no reason to tank. I just feel like Clippers as currently constructed are going to struggle rebounding, and can really use some improvement up front.

I guess my worry is the Clippers are “all-in” on the short term and just refuse to sign anyone to like a 3 or 4 year deal, even if it’s a reasonable contract (i.e. full MLE). I guess they still have my confidence for now, at least until we start seeing like Watson, Rui, Lebron, Kuminga, come off the boards.

We probably don’t, but we could. If I’m doing the math correctly. That’s a big IF.

So, patience clip fans.

The market for him must not be great or someone would have tried to beat our QO, This is welcome news if we can get him for this price or into the MLE if and when we press over the cap with filler. I think at this price it will be hard not to bring him back and see what he’s got. TBH I’m not that concerned about a prototypical PF for this iteration because we aren’t going anywhere meaningful and Ingram and DJ can just start alongside whatever center and SG we put out there. The important thing is that we get Wagler as much burn as possible along with Kobe and eventually Yanic. Maybe a couple of our guys are attractive to someone at the deadline.

Just as a 26 year old with only really 1 year of rotation level play, he still has a lot to prove and I think a lower ceiling that even like Kobe Sanders.

Sanders, while also old for a rookie, at least is still a rookie where you feel like he has still a lot of untapped potential. Miller being over 2 years older, and a few years in the league with limited success, it’s just harder to imagine him improve over his current production.

Felt for a few seasons that Miller was ready for a bigger role, so definitely expect him to continue to be a rotation level player in this league. Still definitely preferred to keep JMill at this number than playing Benn like $15M for the next 3 or 4 years. Maybe they still end up keeping both, and see where the minutes shake out, but getting Miller done at a lower cost was more a priority in my mind.

At this point, I think ideally they get assets or a PF for Benn in a S&T, or keep him and shop him at the deadline.
