the other 50% goes towards “league purposes.” The custom, I believe, has been to split the money 50/50 between payouts for non-tax teams and tossing the rest into the revenue sharing pot to subsidize the small market teams.

As far as Lou in the 2022 playoffs, yeah, it’s not gonna be great, but I think his role is going to be pretty small. Lou has taken another big step back this year and he is just simply not a 6th man scorer anymore, really I think what you’re getting with him is more like the Clippers version of Pablo Prigioni, a super smart/crafty player who has run a million pick and rolls and can make the right read. The Clippers need that right now, but they won’t with PG/Kawhi back. If those guys are back, Lou wouldn’t be in my playoff rotation with how this team is constructed (unless he plays really well between now and then and earns it, but realistically he’d get cut out). If they aren’t back, Lou will probably play in the playoffs, but our backup point guard getting picked on for 15 minutes per game isn’t going to be the reason we lose the 1-8 or 2-7 vs Phoenix or Golden State with our two best players injured.

I also think that Lou Will/playoffs/defense concern is probably about the same for guys like Schroder, Kemba, Augustin, Teague, etc.

Don’t want Lou back as he’s lost a lot of his game. Have been reading a lot on Dragic and his situation up in Toronto is Simmons like. Mite be a red flag.

The vast majority of those teams don’t have title hopes for the 2021-22 season, but they’ll get at least a $10 million check as a consolation.” (sportico)
So, the non tax paying teams are heavily rooting for guys like Ballmer to overpay. Wonder what the NBA does with the other half of the tax money?? Charities?

They’re stop-gap backups for this year, and those with contracts for next year would be backups or 3rd stringers if the Clippers do find a lead ballhandler upgrade.

Wall is interesting, but I wouldn’t give up any assets at all for him. Buyout? Now we’re talking

So will be interesting what they feel like is the best lineup for them next season (assuming Norm and RoCo are considered pieces for the foreseeable future).

When PatBev was leading the Clippers at the point, I was pretty adamant the Clips needed a better “true” point guard to play with PatBev. What I think I’ve realized since then is it’s not really about needing some ball dominant pass first point guard. What they really lacked with PatBev is someone that could get that first breakdown of the defense by driving and getting into the paint the way we’ve seen more with Reggie and Bled. Clips tended to get stagnant offensively when they would just pass the ball around the perimeter and then get left to expect Kawhi or PG to go iso with the shot clock rolling down. Really in the playoff last year, we saw PG take a lot more of that responsibility of getting into the lane, working closer to the basket, and being the playmaker. So really I wouldn’t mind if we see some minutes with Norm Powell at the “point guard” spot once PG is healthy. I just don’t think we can rely on PG for that role for a whole season.

So I think having someone who can pressure the defense is a need, even if they’re not the best 3 point shooter (which goes against everything I usually look for in a player). Funny, I would really like to see what John Wall could do with this team, but a deal for Wall and the amount of guys that would have to go back just wouldn’t make any sense.

I’m not sure anyone out there for Serge or the TPE is going to be better than TMann at that. I am a little curious what TMann got as a point guard under Ty Lue. I know Doc wanted him to play point, and he wasn’t that great at it, but he also was a rookie. Just feels like I would rather have TMann on the court with the glut of Clips wings than forcing a mediocre “point guard” into rotation minutes.

I do like a lot of those guys mentioned, Schroder has the most upside, but also probably the most volatility in that I think he’s still playing for his next contract, not for the team. I’ve always loved DJ Augustin for some reason, and he can be a solid shooter, and same with Cory Joseph. But I’m not sure they fill the need for the point guard in the “paint and spray” style the Clips want to play. So sure take back an Augustin or Joseph, if you can get them for next to nothing, but don’t be surprised if they don’t even make it in the rotation.

Playoff rotations are only 8-9 guys usually, so ours w/o PG13 and Kawhi would already be: Reggie, Norm, Batum, MM, Zu, Mann, Luke, Hart, Covington/Serge. We would just need Lou to soak up some regular season minutes, mentor Preston a bit, and then stay ready in case of emergency when the playoffs come around.
