One thing that I think is being overblown a bit is the leverage Kawhi supposedly has regarding signing an extension. When you think it through, how many teams are going to have $60 million in cap space next summer to compete with the Bird Rights of whatever team we trade him to? He’s also playing around with losing money if he keeps the field this narrow. I think the FO should call bullshit on him and teams trying to use that as leverage and start fielding offers from anyone.

Given those realities Boston and JB might be more realistic than we think. Would probably take our throwing 2029 in but I’d rather do that than settle for BI, Dick and one first.

I would also remind people that last week polymarket had it 90% Giannis to the Celtics and look how that turned out. This Raptors thing may be dead if they are only willing to offer one first.

Does anyone know what the Clips’ cap space would look like next Summer if they just held onto Kawhi and let him walk in free agency? I am really not loving the Raptors’ alleged offer of Ingram, Dick, and a single 1st rounder, so I’m curious about what leverage the Clippers have in terms of alternatives.

Crazy high taxes probably negates a lot of that. Sometimes I also think agents priority is just find their guy the biggest contract (i.e. get themselves the biggest payday). I sometimes wonder if all agents have their clients best interest in mind.

Ousmane Dieng is now an unrestricted free agent. I would love to have hm on the Clippers. Nic Batum would be a great mentor for him on this team.

Ingram would be a Norm-level pickup who would probably give us decent production for a year or two but that’s an expensive stopgap. need a LOT more in assets back.

usually with a S&T not much of value would go back to the signing team. They’re basically signing a guy as free agent. I don’t think Kings would give up Sabonis unless it’s part of some larger deal with extra picks going to the Kings too.

Detroit would probably take him. If Duren is gone their only other option is Paul Reed. I love Bball Paul but he’s not a starting C on a contending team…frankly Sabonis probably isn’t either, but he’s not a bad alternative if Duren is demanding irresponsible money.

Looks like we’ve taken ourselves out of the prime free agent sweepstakes. I can assume that they weighed all options and came to these conclusions. If we can’t get a better offer than what’s been advertised for Kawhi then we should keep him with the understanding that he’s playing the 4 now.

Yea he was here one year, we aren’t contenders, and it’s not like he’s from SoCal. I’d like him back on a reasonable deal, but he should be out there trying to get as big a bag as possible.
