They are calling it “injury management”. This is extremely depressing. Don’t want to get ahead of myself but the imagination runs wild with thoughts of…what if we are locked into 3 years of arguably the worst contract of all time?

He was on a podcast about 6 months ago and was super likable as a person. I don’t know what it’s going to take to reel him in but it’s got to happen. Fans don’t want to hear jokes when their team is losing. It kind of borders on antisocial which I’m certain he is not. Hope he sees all of this. Would prefer he remedy.

Agree about Ireland giving the basics. We don’t even get that from Sieman. He sets the tone, his partners just follow along. Ballmer has built a great franchise infrastructure and it’s seemed bizarre that the lone exception is their awful play-by-play guy. Like the commenter above, I also try to time when to unmute Sieman, only to find that he’s still laughing hysterically about nothing and ignoring the play on the floor.

Way too full of himself. The only time I really turn on the sound on any sporting event is to get analysis of something controversial or esoteric. In terms of clipper radio, I think you can say the same thing about Noah Eagle. Again, way too full of himself and with many pop culture/music asides that get in the way of play calling (OK, we know your a hipster Noah–that’s established). Once in a while he’ll take a play off and if he disagrees with a ref’s call, he’ll complain and ignore play calling. While I think John Ireland is an eternal Laker homer, he’s at least a Chick Hearn diciple and gives you the basics frequently: score, time remaining, who’s on the floor. You don’t have to guess. Lakes also give Ireland a sidekick, Mychal Thompson. Is Ballmer too cheap to kick in a sidekick for Noah?
But, you know, local team broadcasters are all generally insufferable homers given the job because of who they know, not for merit IMHO. So it is what it is.

“. . . having league pass and having a chance to listen to other teams I can honestly say we have the worst play by play announcers in the league. They have these inane conversations about themselves way too often and Sieman gets hysterical laughing at stuff that’s not clever or funny or they get into a talk about their midwest roots or Ohio State college vs Kansas U way too often. Sieman sometimes laughs through an entire offensive and defensive sequence distracting from the game. No other team does that. I’ve gotten to the point of muting them and trying to time how long they’re going to go on before I unmute (I’m more often than not wrong and I have to mute again. It’s disrespectful to the game and I wish someone would talk to them about it.”

So uve never heard of players/coaches reading their press clippings? I have and a sports blog is akin to just that. Everyone’s on the net now–everyone.
