That one-handed free throw is so wonky I doubt it can ever get better, nor will his lateral speed. I also like him generally and if he was a better defender he could stick. But IMO what we are seeing now is largely his upside in the NBA.

Moses has done admirably this season. He is right at the level, in my opinion, of being so big that the game becomes about him when he plays, which is what I have always said about Boban. The question is of “the game being about Moses Brown” is a good thing for you or not. It works at a level a half-step below quality NBA play, so going against the worst team in the league down their two leading scorers? Effective stuff.

I am, unfortunately, very confident that he would be a major liability in a potential playoff series. It’s a shame because he works hard and does his job. In a normal roster set-up where he was our 3rd string center, he’d be an enjoyable guy to root for when he got opportunities throughout the year. I just don’t trust him against elite competition as the 2nd center on a 2-center team.

Yes, you are correct in everything you said, but it’s the tax money. If you give him rest-of-season and then cut him to sign someone else rest-of-season later, you have to pay both of them, and the tax on both of them. The money becomes pro-rated so we’d need to know the exact date of each transaction to calculate the exact cost, but we’re likely talking a several million dollar difference between:

a) Sign Moses ROS, cut him when someone better comes along, sign new player ROS; and
b) Replace Moses with a new 2W big to fill the gap while you wait to get the someone better

A few million seems insignificant in the grand scheme of things but the entire Moses Brown ploy by the Clippers was a cost-saving one–putting a “backup center” on a two-way instead of signing a vet min into their open 15th roster spot so that they could avoid paying tax on a full season of that player (two-way contracts don’t count towards the tax). If they bide their time they might get away with paying a third or fourth what it would have otherwise cost to add someone like Hassan Whiteside for the full year, savings that are largely given away if you are paying (and paying the tax on) Whiteside AND Moses down the stretch.

Because of that, I think that if they give Moses ROS, then he’s their guy. And I don’t think he’s good enough to be their guy, so…

Gotta say that after today’s game, Moses Brown’s growing on me. If he could improve his FTs I’d feel even better. Maybe cuz it was vs. the undersized Rox but he’s a presence out there.

Whelp. Looks like Kawhi and PG are booked through 24/25 on old man vampire contracts and we’re screwed. No choice but to trade everything possible to get better immediately or trade them while they still have value. Sorry I didn’t do my homework before prior post. What a disaster.
