But everyone has already said what needs to be said about the rotations and the coaching. There’s simply no denying that Doc has been outcoached by Carlisle.

1) Cut Reggie’s minutes or bench him altogether in favor of either McGruder/Sham/Mann. The starting unit does not need another scorer but a glue guy in the point guard position to spot up on kick outs and keep the ball moving. Reggie stagnates an already isolation-heavy offense.

2) Give Zu a longer leash because of his recent bubble-play and give him more minutes instead of risking a game to ramp up Trez despite the matchup struggles. If anything, Trez should play the least amount of center minute at this point because Zu and JaMych have playing so well in the bubble. I personally think Trez would be a better matchup against Gobert next round if the Jazz move on. But I see Trez being a liability going against Jokic next round against the Nuggets because Jokic is a much better version of KP.

I’d be curious to see what a full 5-out lineup could do against the Mavs and see how they would do with Boban out there.

Wish one of the assistants was a rotation specialist whom Doc could rely upon to make those tweaks because Doc is just inept with them

For all we want to quibble with second-unit lineups, if it wasn’t for Doc’s reputation and leadership, there’d be no Kawhi and no PG.

“ An interesting wrinkle the Clippers used late in the game was Morris at center, something they had used sparingly over the season. According to Cleaning The Glass, Morris previously had only played 16 possessions at the five with the Clippers.”

I give the Clips a good deal of credit for the turnovers, less so for the shooting, as Dallas got a lot of open looks and we were just lucky it wasn’t a hot night.

This wasn’t Dallas’ best punch

Let’s get some perspective here – it’s one game where Reggie played 16 min. Sure, they were putrid, but he would have played half that if Bev were not in foul trouble. Reggie was brought in as the backup PG and was always penciled in at 8-10 mpg and I think deserves that in his very first playoff game for us. Far cry from sticking with Avery as a starter and the PP days. Doc also played Lou 31 min, which I’m sure is a few more than he would have liked. Lou was our most effective guard and sticking with him I think qualifies as an in-game adjustment. Let’s see how Doc adjusts next game before we start getting out the pitchforks.

I think if Carlisle was in that situation, he would have handled it fine as well. I just think Doc’s problem is that when he has too much talent to work with, he’ll make more mistakes when the stakes are higher. We’ve seen time and time again how well Doc can coach when he has less to work with. I just think that once Doc has an idea of a player’s reputation, regardless of how well they contribute in recent memory will dictate their minutes (e.g. Avery Bradley, Paul Pierce and Jamal Crawford in the later Lob City era). I get the sense that Doc remembers how good Reggie was in OKC and is letting Reggie be Reggie and part of the problem with that is Doc has to be able to ride guys and coach them. Reggie has easily been the worst Clipper in the bubble and Doc needs to get with the program. I just think there is much more value for the ability to make in-game adjustments on the fly and proactively versus being reactive where it may be too late at the end.

Put Carlisle on our side and I’m not sure Kawhi and PG are finding there way here. Doc isn’t perfect but he’s a primary reason we’re even in the position to win it all.

My main beef is his failure to counteract big runs, evidenced again in this game. He does have that one title with Boston (should have been two), but think the stars aligned for him then when they got Garnett. I’m hoping the stars are again aligning favorably for him with the Clippers’ coup in signing Leonard and George.
