Craig did not let Morris close out the game against Blazers while Ty did so against the Thunder. Ty did not call time out on the last possession, it was give the ball to KL and clear out, however, KL frustratingly had to motion to MM (who seemed lost) to clear out with time running out - where is your 'continuity' here, Lue. The team does well if their D hums. And Morris is not a Wingstop. If only Lue did not waste earlier season games with DNP CD on Roco, while going with Jackson, Wall, Morris, the Clips may have enough cushion at this point to avoid play ins given the PG mishap or gave more playing time to Mann then, not until half of the regular season was done. The players, Ballmer and FO should all be very aware of this. Hiding Roco until the playoffs ? I am not aware of other NBA coaching precedent like this at the expense of the team. I wish Craig can take over Lue already.

Exactly. The mistake strictly by the rules wasn’t the decision. It was the decision to call it OKC’s ball instead of going to the monitor and review a hugely important possession. This cost us the challenge, the jump ball with a good chance at an extra possession and the timeout that was missed to prevent the disaster on the final possession.

Arguably another blunder by the refs that cost us the game (the better crews pretty much routinely go to the monitor in those situations, late in the game, game tightly contested and especially when the game matters to both teams).

Tricky: it’s not something season-ending.

Here’s the caveat: team could easily be in the situation where it’s tempting to rush him back. Playing a guy heavy minutes at the absolute highest level of competition following a knee injury involves a significant risk for a much more severe injury. Even if he can play, he won’t be at 100% immediately. It says re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks, not fit in 2-3 weeks, not having gone through the necessary ramp-up period and practices.

This is a double-edged sword. I’m relieved it ain’t worse but at best I expect SOME help from PG in the playoffs – in limited minutes and if he’s at 80% I’d very gladly take that.

NBA last 2 minute report on the coaches challenge with 32 seconds left (who last touched it, Westbrook or Dort).

The review of the coaches challenge said there was “insufficient evidence” to reverse the call). It also said the two made simultaneous contact.

So the correct call would have been a jump-ball. But since it was called in OKC’s favor on the floor, they let the call stand.

Hmm.

My guesstimate…we’ve just seen PG13’s last game of the season. This franchise does not rush the return time of 45 million per year assets. Deep playoff run..maybe he suits up, but I don’t think we were going to make a deep playoff run even if he was healthy. My dudes…we couldn’t even beat the Orlando Magic 4 days ago. We are in need of multiple alterations.

Other thing I was going to mention was that it’s very Clipper that PG’s injury came not so long after he treated us to the amazing dunk. After he crumpled, I was reminded of how the last play of John Wall’s illustrious career was a soaring dunk in a Clipper uniform, so authoritative and inspired that he strained his abdominal wall and was never able to get back onto the court. PG will be back at least, but you add up the 360 dunk with the Kawhi/Terance techs and our complicated feelings about SGA, and this was especially tough, but also par for the course.

Relatively good news on PG, I guess.

It’s going to be interesting to see what his absence does to the insane rotation equation. Maybe Lue will use it as an excuse to get Marcus Morris (3-10, 1-6 3s) more minutes. And it’s a big green light for Westbrook not just starting (questionable before) but also finishing games (yikes). It will make things a little simpler with Norm coming back, as I mentioned elsewhere.

So Ty, now you had a chance (thanks to a horrendous ref sequence, noted by Lucas) to see what it’s like not to have Terance available. You think the defense against SGA, and a bunch of other guys as well, might have been better with TMann on the floor?

For me–and I’m a pretty big TMann guy, obviously–his absence was palpable, and then it was compounded by leaving Zu riding pine for no reason. Another winnable game, another 1 point loss. Walking out to the tightrope now with another OKC game coming up tomorrow, and no Paul George.

Only silver lining is that it will open up a good number of minutes for Norm when he gets back, and maybe he will have the opportunity to get the kinks out and return to the extra-high level of play he had mustered earlier.

Also an opportunity to put Gordon or Mann in the starting lineup, where they should do well.
