It’s on Ballmer and the front office for not making it happen. Or in the NBA, is the head coach more powerful than the FO? It’s not at all like that, normally, in the other major team sports. Are the Clippers an aberration?

Defensive field goal percentage last season:

Same on the Lakers. Only difference: last season he wasn’t effective trying to protect the rim (went overboard with the small ball frequently). Otherwise the data is consistent.

Russ would just be the next guy playing his role not being appreciated and when he’s gone: why are we worse defensively? Why can’t we rebound? Why does the team play without heart?

But the criers fail to say that the same goes for the other team as well. No excuse. Win the effing game.

Ty arbitrarily throws dudes in the doghouse and plays favorites just like Doc did. Amir really should’ve gotten the call for rotation minutes ahead of PJ or Kobe imo, especially after he had a good showing recently. But Kobe struggling and PJ being out of the rotation gave Ty the ultimate license to break out his patented all guard lineup, so he probably considers it a win.

Also I agree Kobe looked pretty rough, but he’s a rookie – that’s to be expected. Giving him actual meaningful game reps is the only real way for him to improve – the hope is that the other guys out there w/ him can help cover his inexperience.

Re: Bones, he’s also rough around the edges but he would’ve been a better option than hobbled Norm out there. Healthy Norm is a (often inconsistent, but alas) positive on offense but a negative on defense – hobbled Norm is a super negative on defense and also a negative on offense. At least Bones would’ve had fresh legs (y’know, that thing that our retirement home of a rotation hates, apparently).

As long as he’s still all world and Harden is still Harden there’s reason to watch and hope for improvement. I’m much more concerned about that matinee game tomorrow than last night’s loss. Hopefully with a little rest and “home court” we can get the W. You can see something crystalizing with the starters now. Getting the bench worked in now is the next hurdle.

When was the last time we saw one ofTy’s pet small/microball lineups actually exploit a weakness in the *other* team? Against the 2021 Jazz?

I think Ty has a lot of pull with Ballmer and that pull cuts off LF’s nuts at times.

That in and of itself would mean that Frank has failed at his job. What good is a president of basketball operations with less influence than the coach? I’d get it if we had a coach with the gravitas of Pop or Spo, but not Ty Freaking Lue, the worst coach in the NBA.

You might be overrating Frank’s vision, too. He was a bad coach in his own right and he’s barely demonstrated any competence in the front office since 2019. I don’t think he understands how to win any more than Ty does.
