To his detractors and those calling to sign a re-tread: Think again and print retractions.
MBs performance was powerful (re-watch Q3 for an exhillarating ride) and repeatable but it almost didn’t happen. Either Ty Lue saw something in him and wanted to give him his “shot,” or Zu’s 4 first half fouls forced his hand. I’m wagering the latter and that MB doesn’t even get that shot if Zu’s not in foul trouble. But Ty saw what we all saw and rightly praised him after the game.
Here’s what I saw:
–A 7’2″ energetic young big who runs the floor with plenty of footspeed (faster than Zu, I’d say)
–A guy playing both ends of the floor with a lot of passion and skill
–A guy with pretty good hands
–A guy who finishes strong and fearlessly
–A guy who thrives playing with our top guys
And some praise for our guys who actually rewarded their big for running hard–an unwritten law that the playmakers obeyed and was great to see. Repeatable? Yes, because MB needs to play with guys like Wall and PG (and KL when he’s back–and he will be) to elevate his game and to really show what he can consistently do. Garbage time MB not so much. And, during that Q3 run, I had to ask myself who actually was the starting C on this team. Everytime MB made an eye opening play, you could just see the Rockets players negative body language–MBs play just defeated them.
And, if there was ever a performance by a guy who could take minds off of KLs travails, even for a game or two, it was this one by Moses.

A number of other teams in each conference have played 8. Yes, the early schedule has been “soft,” but as someone else noted the weaker opponents have young and hungry and dare we say talented players.

Only one or two other West teams have that many. And the Clips were the last team to start the season. So no wonder they are tired!

Now, I realize their early schedule has been soft. But the scheduling has been rough and they have had to rest more players as a result.

PG is great but I don’t want us to overwork him.

We and they have been looking forward to his return for more than a year. It’s entirely up to Lue and the players to come together and win some games until Kawhi is good to go. PG was simply amazing yesterday, Luke is looking like a starter, other good things. It’s not all dark shadows.

They have a $9.7M trade exception to work with. He’s on an expiring contract, and that means he’d play hard for the next paycheck. He’s the type of athletic PF/C the Clips could use to anchor the D on the 2nd unit.

Which is fine, we don’t necessarily need spectacular – we just need someone to not monopolize the ball while also not scoring.
