Wow! Love the boxing acumen. I rank RD #3 after Sugar Ray Robinson and Roy Jones Jr on my all time greatest list. Best lightweight of all time and even beat possibly the greatest welterweight of all time in Ray Leonard the first time they fought. Couldn’t do it the second time and trashed his legacy with “no mas.” But that doesn’t change the reality of what a wrecking machine that dude was in his prime. Zu is super promising and should pan out just fine. All of our pieces are great but there’s a serious void in terms of joy for the game. We got all these serious hard asses but it ain’t the 1980s and we ain’t the pistons. In retrospect that’s probably what Denver had over us more than anything else. Sorry for the fan post.

If you’re basing this opinion on how he’s looked in this preseason, then I don’t blame you – he hasn’t looked great in these 3 games. On the other hand, he’s adjusting to a new role off the bench (hopefully this is just temporary), and a lot of the passes thrown to him have been absolute airballs that even DJ wouldn’t have been able to reach.

Also, re: Zu needing to score w/ the bench – depends on who’s out there w/ him. If Lue staggers the lineups, so you have say Lou/Kennard/Kawhi/Batum/Zu, then Zu isn’t gonna need to score much in that group. If, on the other hand, you wind up w/ like Mann/Reggie/Batum/PatPat/Zu, then yea, he’s gonna have to do some heavy lifting on both ends…the thing is, I don’t think Lue would ever send out a lineup like that.

Hands of Stone? “No mas!” cried the great Roberto Duran. Zu had broken fingers before this past unfortunate season, in which he looked very good and at times was going to the hoop faster and stronger. He needs to get back to that in my uneducated opinion.

I wouldn’t worry too much about him right now – knee soreness yea, but apparently he’s still been practicing w/ the team, so the Clips are probably just being extra cautious.

A couple of positives:
Fi showing he can be NBA ready.
Kennard looking like he could punish opponents regularly.

Mann should get opportunities consistently.

A tip from European basketball:
If you want to develop a talent, throw them in the deep end and see if they can swim.
