“Bad team, man. Bad fuckin’ team.”
(soundbite: http://www.lerctr.org/~transit/healy/badteam.wav)

This is how I feel about the current horror show that is the Los Angeles Clippers.

The question is more when they pull that trigger, and if they wait long enough that they get a false positive and extend the trial run. Like what if he starts tonight because Kawhi/Norm are out (makes sense to me, tbh) and has a great game and we win? How many more starts does that buy him, assuming we continue to lose going forward (because obviously if we rattle off 5 wins in a row a change isn’t needed)?

I don’t think they will release him.

But yeah, Gordon was a starter and probably the best guard on a terrible team with terrible, selfish guards.

Or that the Clippers flat out release Westbrook? A lot of the people that were ok with the signing of RW said well if it doesn’t work out we just get rid of Westbrook. So at what point does that happen, if ever? Or does TL even believe that RW is the cause of the recent meltdown?

Does anyone know what statistic the Clippers are better? Don’t say turnovers.

But Clips have always struggled against quicker guards and athletic teams. PatBev was just bad against like the quick PGs in the league. Ibaka was a traffic cone. They were playing like Cousins and Rondo in the playoffs. While yes, the team is older now, they’ve always been an old team. I think it hurts against some matchups, but shouldn’t be the reason for being 0.500 now.

I think that’s why having someone like Mann playing point of attack defense was always key to this team. He’s clearly the most athletic guy on the team. Missing Zu these last few games has also been a huge negative, and maybe having him against SAC or DEN might’ve been the difference in winning those OT games and having a much different outlook on this team.

We keep getting beat by these younger teams that “on paper” are not as talented as we are, but I think what is actually happening is that these younger players are getting better and our talented players are getting older/worse. This isn’t at all the case with Kawhi, who looks as good as ever, but it definitely shows with PG, who’s defense has dropped off, Marcus Morris, who can’t play any defense and who’s offense has dropped off, and RoCo, who apparently isn’t capable of playing at all.

The big risk when we traded for Kawhi/PG was that their window was pretty limited. I think we’re just seeing that play out. It’s part of why it was so frustrating to not see big minutes for Luke and Mann over the past two years. They were meant to be our youth movement to keep the window open. Instead, we’ve doubled down on age via MM, Russ, and EG. Given PG’s value, we also definitely missed the window to do a proper blow up.
