I get your point, G Rap. Perhaps my comment was a bit flippant. JVG has been a student of the game since he last coached and is obviously a bright guy who can and has certainly learned the nuances of the new game that is being played today.

Think JVG has denied other offers in past. However I think most the offers were for rebuilding teams or instances where he could get fired pretty quickly if he didn’t make huge leaps.? I could be wrong, don’t remember any teams that were championship caliber offering him a HC job.

Agreed, if Lue was the Clippers first choice, he would have been hired already.
I was thinking about the Warriors moving from Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr. By the time Kerr took the reigns, the Warriors core were ready to win after several seasons together, but I am guessing that Jackson is more old school like Doc. I can see Kerr willing to embrace more modern thinking.
From other reports, if Doc indeed ignored the analytics data that Mr. Ballmer provided, then any future coach is going to have to embrace the statistics. Is Lue, Hammon or any other candidate going to use all of the resources that Steve Ballmer is going to bring to the court?
Also, Kawhi’s comments after the Game 7 loss to Denver, it was very blunt — guys were not doing the basics. Analytics or not, we have to play fundamental good team basketball and make adjustments, then all of the super talented players can shine.

I’m sure that Van Gundy has gotten offers before, but his ABC commentating job is pretty good and low stress. Not a bad gig. Unless he really wanted the stress, why would you leave a good job?

Another strong vote for Becky Hammon. It isn’t like we have enough pressure on our team/franchise, but it would provide a positive spin on next season. For the league and the Clippers, being open to new frontiers — it is the way to go.
But, the most important first thing — can she coach in the modern era? Yes!

That’s cool as hell you trained dogs. Kudos. I like Lucas’ idea of Jay Wright but it seems like college coaches need a year to get their feet wet. I think we’re in win now mode. If we go with Ty that will tell me it was more than basketball that influenced Ballmer to let Doc go. Maybe they just had a heated argument and that was that. Nick nurse JUST signed a four year extension a couple weeks ago:-(.

I don’t get the whole JVG hasn’t coached in over ten years argument.
I trained K-9’s 10 years ago but that doesn’t mean I can’t train them now?
Yeah I take my old school methods and study new school methods and with no problems can still train dogs.
It’s not like JVG has been living in the arctic circle for ten years , the guy has been working and watching and studying the newer nba this whole time.

In today’s environment, wouldn’t it make sense that initial interviews might by done Zoom? That being said, perhaps they have already “met” with multiple candidates, INCLUDING “bubble-wrapped” JVG.

I think the Clippers should be thinking outside of the box. Like Robert wrote, Lue is not exactly known as an innovator and JVG hasn’t coached in over 10 years though has somewhat established mythical status a la Jon Gruden (except Gruden actually won a championship). Even though he has been an analyst, could it be the game has passed him by? (This is NOT the NBA of 2007).

I think Becky Hammon should get a strong look as well as other hungry assistant coaches looking for their first shot.
