looking at the fact that Clippers FO bought those second round picks and traded up in first round to get those guys, you can’t look at who’s drafted after them, because if FO got second round picks and drafted Preston and Boston, they must have pinpointed them to be picked and not guys that were picked after them.
and believe me i share your lack of faith in Clippers drafting ability, i even went through drafts going back to Blake Griffin draft until now and looked who could have they drafted instead of guy they did draft :
2010- Gordon Hayward or Paul George
2013- Rudy Gobert
2014- Joe Harris, Spencer Dinwiddie , Nikola Jokić
2016- Pascal Siakam, Malcolm Brogdon
2018- Michael Porter Jr,

Ah, I see. Yea, Bones has looked smooth as butter in SL, but I do ultimately still think that KJ has a higher ceiling than Bones, though there’s no telling whether or not he’ll ever reach it.

I would’ve taken Garuba ahead of KJ though – I think Garuba is ready to go right now and would’ve filled our PF/C hole, but I admit I’d rather have Batum and MM slide up to C than to try to ask either of them to slide down to play SF.

I definitely didn’t want Grimes in the 1st though – I’m a lot higher on Bones than I am on Grimes.

…I mean I guess if we don’t think Preston is ready I could sort of dig it? But he’s been away from the game for a while, and we don’t really need any more PGs. Meanwhile the team really needs another PF/C.

I said “high bBall IQ” and that he seems like a great kid.

And I’m just discussing the picks we made and the ones we could’ve made on a message board. I hope Preston pans out but there were great picks avail and will be interesting to see how they compare down the road. I just don’t have a lot of faith in this FO drafting ability. I do really like the Boston pick, however.

King: Ur focusing on Preston’s negatives and ignoring his positives (have you said anything positive about him? Maybe I missed that part). Bones (26) and Grimes (25) were taken ahead of Preston (33) so they weren’t available – we could’ve taken one of them instead of KJ, but not Preston. The rest were available, and I agree that I think Butler (….assuming he eventually plays – he skipped SL entirely) and McBride were better prospects, but I don’t think Preston was really much of a reach. I had him behind those two, but not *that* far behind them.
