He’s definitely needed for certain matchuos where Kawhi and DJJ give up too much mass against true 4s. On the 2nd unit he should pair well with CP3 and Lopez. A pick and roll partner with Lopez, Bogi spreading the court will be huge. He will likely split the minutes with Batum as the season progresses as well.

Collins is good and will be an xlnt complement to the Beal, Kawhi and James offensive mainstays of this team (could throw in Zu but he needs to earn it) — those 3 guys jobs just got a lot easier with JC. I can see them just racking up the dimes — they’ll be doubled and JC will be left.

And I can see JC starting or jumpstarting the 2d unit — which is gonna be hard up for offense, unless they stagger the 3 — guessin they will. As always, this is a test for Ty Lue on how he uses this talent — hope he doesn’t squander this.

The game just seems to flow better with Kawhi back at his natural SF position, and Collins provides better size and outside shooting than DJJ. I’m just basing this on the small sample size from pre-season. But, this was also one of their biggest weaknesses in the playoffs last year, and why they needed someone like Collins (and/or Lopez) in the first place. If the defense falls off a cliff, then I think Ty/JVG can put Dunn and DJJ back in. As you alluded to, Rob, health may dictate rotations anyway to a certain extent.

In other news, Beal looked pretty solid against the Warriors. Kobe Sanders and YCN balled out, which I was not expecting. Let’s hope we’ve seen the end of small-ball (but something tells me we haven’t). We’ll see if they can put the whole puzzle together for opening night against the Jazz. Go Clippers!

Congrats on your engagement, Rob. Best of luck!
