Dallas in 2011 and even the 2022 Warriors weren’t spring chickens. Frank and co have done a nice job of giving us fans something to be invested in. I’ve had some pretty florid tirades against the FO over the years but I gotta give em their flowers over these last two off seasons.

My only quibble is the draft. I’ll be rooting for Yanic and to use Frank’s phrase, “if you squint” you can see an NBA player in a couple years. A pretty valuable one even if he works out to his full potential.

But I still think it was a pretty crazy pick considering who was out there. I get it from the perspective that this teams needs to improve their athleticism. It’s a less of a need now with Collins here (though he is an expiring), but Fleming is a pretty athletic guy too. I think he was the no brainer pick. Also I’d say if you wanted a young C there’s a way better chance (80%) that Kalkbrenner and Raynaud are better players though both guys are not very mobile/athletic.

I have a feeling though mostly we’ll be looking back at the Fleming pick and be annoyed that we passed on him.

We actually do kind of need a back up point guard, but ideally for us it’s basically a strict back up only.

Still under the 1st apron. They can sign 1 more vet min and stay under. And they still have 1 more roster spot so technically they’d have room for another vet min midseason with a pro-rated vet minimum.

If CP3 was going to sign with the Clippers, I think it would’ve happened.

We have 3.5M left to sign someone outright, BUT we still have tradable contracts for a S&T. Brown and Bogi are basically expiring contracts because their last years are team options. Coffey is unsigned, and I think we have some Bird rights with him. So, I think there’s a possibility to do some kind of sign and trade with some combination of Bogi, Brown, and Coffey.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on some details.

Like a backup PG by committee approach? Honestly, between Harden, Beal, and Bogey we already have 3 guards who are subpar defenders, and adding CP3 to that would just add to the imbalance…I may have actually just talked myself outta CP3.

I feel like we may actually wanna add another wing for if/when Kawhi needs to miss some time – right now the only SG/SFs we have are DJJ and Kawhi. If Flowers or Christie proved themselves ready to handle that spot that would be ideal, but otherwise maybe we could re-sign Jordan or look into younger guys like Kessler Edwards.

  • Almost made the JV team of my high school.
  • Outstanding basketball smarts due to countless hours of watching basketball film (ESPN, TNT and NBA TV).
  • Intimate knowledge of the Clippers team due to having seen the team in action in person.
  • Accepts role and limitations of backup PG. Willing passer, hustles on the court, not shoot the ball unless left wide open.
  • Understands that 6 fouls are meant to be used as needed.
  • Scored in the top 95 percentile as a hype man.
  • Above average towel waver.

If he wants to get paid a bit more, start, and average 25mpg he can enjoy his retirement tour limbo in Phoenix.

We got the most out of Norm last year, very proud of him, but we didn’t need to pay him, and it was too bad that he had an untimely injury and couldn’t finish off what he started. Beal is a truly fascinating “prospect”–it’s hard to tell what he might do and how he might fit, what his ceiling might be. I guess we get to find out.

The big thing about the Clippers truly solid depth right now is that it will take the pressure off of all these older guys, Kawhi and Harden and Beal and Lopez (and Batum), and they should be able to establish their winning attitude and chemistry but also get some selective time off and avoid a good share of the rigors of the NBA season. The continuity of bringing Harden/Zu and Kawhi back at the opening of the season, while incorporating new weapons (Beal, Collins, Lopez), will be strongly supported by last year’s new guys, Dunn, DJJ, and Bogie. There’s still a guard missing, even though Dunn, Bogie, and now Beal could all fill that slot.

This new version of the Clippers is going to have so many storylines going that it’s crazy. This was a great response after getting popped by an inspired and reinvigorated former champion, the best player in the world, and his mates. That was a stern test for this Harden/Zu/Kawhi version of the Clippers, and it seems like they can build a strong response now, pick up playing at the extremely high level where they left off, and compete and establish themselves as legitimate contenders.
