The old guard basically flamed out. The new guard is taking over. We had Boston/Dallas last year and OKC this year + the winner of NYK/Indiana (probably IND).

LAC can win regular season games, but does not have the right mix of youth and depth to be able to win playoff games. You can’t beat a team as young and deep as OKC or Indiana (and even NYK) with old vets. Our team in 2021 was built for that type of tournament, and I’d say last year’s team was better built for the playoffs until Kawhi got hurt.

SGA/Shamet/Zu were the young core that was once promised.
Finding talent is one thing. Let them play, develop and put the right system/personnel that matching around them also matter.
I know Ballmer don’t want to go through full-rebuild and we don’t high ranked picks to utilize. But Pacers’ success is the proof that you can get talents from various option be it via trade (Hali, Nesmith, Siakam, Obi) or draft (Nembhard, Mathurin, Myles, Shepperd, etc.) and I like Mcconnell as a secondary ball handler. And most of their draft position is not overly high either, maybe except Ben and Myles.
But you need system in place to maximize their talent and to let them play, to go through ups and downs as a team.
We are not that far from DEN, from the series result and they are a team who give most trouble to OKC, so far.
I hope we get a bit more younger, give them young guys more leash to play and keep the good things intact but add some creativity and system that encourage all guys to make play on both ends. That shouldn’t be too much to ask, from a coaching standpoint.

Guess he’d be a step up from KDunn tho. Hey, after watching OKC, it looks like no one’s getting in their way. Too good, too young, too much D.

I would be happy if they simply stick to the accepted rating systems and pick the top available player. It worked with SGA.

A week ago we had a conversation about staying the course and tweaking around the margins; pushing all chips in on a major move; or having a fire sale with what assets we have. But there may be a fourth option to where we recycle assets for younger ones.

We’re not going to screw Kawhi and send him to Timbuktu so moving him is limited.

With that in mind—-and I know many hate doing deals with the devil——there could be a three team deal with the Lakers and Hornets where everyone wins.

Lakers have an Austin Reaves problem. We have a reboot problem and the Hornets may have a Lamelo problem.

For these reasons there might be a reality where we send Kawhi to the Lakers who sign and trade Reaves to Charlotte, who if incentivized with a few more assets, would send us Lamelo.

Without pulling the trade machine out I would also want Knecht in this deal for us. The Lakers were interested in Mark Williams so there could be a formula of moveable assets and picks that satisfies the math and everyone feels good about.

If we can keep Zu and 2030 and 2031 picks who says no?

This would be pretty exciting if possible.

Just trying to keep the conversation rolling while we once again endure a summer of uncertainty:-)

Someone who is not even in the top 60 big board anywhere.
I hope we find the hidden gem, develop theses guys and let them play.

Maybe that’s too much to ask.
I just want us to have homegrown talent whom we can root for and see their development from the start.
Pacers have plenty of them and OKC, of course.
I hope we keep Zu longterm and let Coffey play a bit more.
Brown & Miller also seems like smart dudes who will figure things out if given enough playing time.
League as a whole is getting younger and we have to adapt.

Basically Harden/Dunn/Zu/Kawhi with DJJ & Batum as the 5th starter is getting the job done.
I hope we keep Dunn and find the right scheme to maximize his skillset.
