The Westbrook debacle screwed Bones. He never really got a chance. Bones knows he never got a chance.

Lue, for whatever reason, doesn’t want to play him. Same with Covington when he was here.

I feel bad for him but that ship has sailed. Lue will never give him a shot.

This is the ultimate season of “Us Against the World”.
We’re gonna prove them wrong, no doubt about it.

He needs to tell Bones he’ll try to boost his value to get him traded. Bones wants to play. He’ll agree and play his heart out to move somewhere he can get minutes as a 6th man.

He came close to getting and then earning a real opportunity, but the timing went against him. The entire Westbrook sequence was a blow to Bones’ prospects, even before the Harden trade. He had a short window when Westbrook got hurt, but he wasn’t able to make anything out of it. He hurt himself when he was disappointed and checked out and failed to perform in his occasional garbage time minutes, but he’s an energetic young guy who must’ve had a difficult time riding so much pine.

It does seem that the ship has sailed, and it’s too bad. Kris Dunn and strong defense off the bench is a better option, especially alongside Norm Powell. You never know what might happen, and Bones deserves an opportunity somewhere. He’s a very high end 3rd stringer.

If we’re not contending then we should be trying to hold onto as much young talent as possible. If it were up to me I would move Norm first to try to free up a role for Bones and although I love TM he’s going to be 28 next month and is our best trade asset to try to get even younger. Maybe sending him to a contender for a promising 20/21 year old that said contender isn’t able to use in their rotation yet.

Who’s our point guard once Harden is finished? Bones is a bird in hand that I wouldn’t just let walk for nothing.

He’s only 24 and that counts for something on an aging team. The problem for a guy in that spot is the enormous pressure to perform/not make silly mistakes when he gets that chance. More established guys — eg. Norm, Mann — don’t have that pressure as their mistakes are forgiven quickly. I just don’t see Ty Lue as the coach who’ll give Bones a long leash–unfortunately.
