I’m pretty sure Russ gets that.

Sure they wouldn’t want to take on like Ben Simmons, but if they just wanted expiring, then send them Morris, EJ, and Batum instead of PG. If they were trading Dame, it would be for expiring PLUS a haul of draft assets.

Like you said, PG has value too, so yea, they could flip him for more assets, but then it’s basically the 3-team deal scenario.

That’s what you want in a rebuild. He’s a trade asset and a vet. If the Heat were to offer Herro, that’s youth, but with a fat contract for the next 4 years and an overpaid Robinson. Herro may or may not fit their timeline and is not a vet. I wouldn’t say the Heat’s offer (if they would even offer it) is that much better if at all. Comparable, maybe.

I was scared to death they view him as still a potential starter, and would prioritize trading RoCo or Batum. I guess it could just be the math needed to match Brogdon’s salary, but really feels like Frank is on the same page as us.

PG is 33, and doesn’t do anything for a team if they are ready to move on from Dame and reset. Why would they take on PG and then potentially lose him in a year for nothing?

The only hope I would have for getting Dame is in a 3 team deal, where maybe a team (like the Knicks) don’t need a point guard, but have the picks and young guys to throw at Portland.

Maybe like the Warriors send Portland Kuminga, Moody, and a 1st Rounders from the Warriors and Clips, Clips get Dame and Wiggins, Warriors get PG. Little doubt the Warriors do that given PG’s value right now and upcoming contract, but PG on the Warriors could be scary.

I guess the 1st team all-NBA is probably exceeding even my lofty expectations.

4 years is an eternity in the NBA, and trying to build around SGA and just hope you get the other pieces to put it all together would still be such a gamble compared to the immediate contending status of KL/PG. OKC still isn’t even close to contending for the title, even if their “upside” is higher than the Clippers. Upside is all well and good, but until they make a deep playoff run, have they really won the trade with the Clips?

That Mann comeback night was one of the greatest experiences of my life. They can’t take that away from us. Such a Clipper way of getting there. Our top 5 players leg is decimated, which spiritually would have derailed any classic contender ever, and it takes Reggie Jackson & Mann & what was then a Paul George with the stink of the bubble on him to take out the number one seeded jazz. That was a gorgeous evening. I remember it being a balmy night but that may have just been the blood rushing through my veins.

We’ll always have that boys and girls. (Said the lone Clipper fan in the bar mumbling to himself in 2043)
