His salary this year would fit into one of our TPE’s. Granted the Clips would also have to give up some draft capital to get him which would then require them to back a contract under the other TPE in exchange for a pick and/or move Luke for another pick. All of these moves would have to be done prior to free agency/NBA draft to make this trade happen.

Why would Cleveland do this … perhaps they don’t want to pay Sexton the salary that him and his agent are going to demand and rather get something rather than nothing if he were to sign elsewhere as RFA.

Yes Brogdon’s injury history is scary, but the point would be to add him to Reggie, not replace Reggie, so if he misses time you still have Reggie to lead the team. Same with Rozier, I think he’s similar to Reggie, but if adding him as a backup PG, I think there are still minutes he could play. Sexton is a restricted free agent, so I mean I don’t see the Clips being able to “pry” him away from Cleveland.

I guess it really comes down to, if you’re fine going into next season with a guard rotation of Reggie, Norm, Mann, Kennard without another “true” point (besides Preston), then yes it would be hard to find someone that is an upgrade over those guys. Assuming Mook is out the door, then you’re talking really a solid 9 man rotation of PG, KL, RoCo, Zu, Reggie, Norm, Mann, Batum, and Hart (assuming everyone is back). So the question comes down to:

  1. Finding a player better than Kennard and Coffey to at least get in the 10-man rotation.
  2. If so, would you rather have a big man with Norm/Mann playing the point? or add a point, with Mann/Batum as the SF/PF. I lean towards the latter, but I guess you can make a case for the former.

In the end, trading Mook alone is going to be tough, so might really just come down to what FA they’re able to keep and who else needs to be included in a deal. I just feel like I’ve just yet to hear a reasonable option to upgrade at PF/C. I keep hearing John Collins name come up, but still not sure why the Hawks would even consider that? If anything they’re looking to package him with their depth to get a star, not for like Mook/Mann/Boston. Kevin Love might be available, but not sure he’s an upgrade, especially given his age and injury history. Is Christian Wood available? But they would be looking for picks or to take back John Wall, so I think that’s a non-starter.

Brogdon is gettable and in a vacuum is better than Reggie but Reggie isn’t injury prone like Brogdon is. Since Reggie is actually available to play, he is better than Brogdon IMO. Rozier is probably gettable too but he’s just undersized shooting guard and we already have one of those in NP. If we were going to go for the Rozier type player than I would rather have the FO try to pry Sexton away from Cleveland. He’s at least a younger more athletic version of Rozier.

One under the radar option that may be gettable might be Immanuel Quickley. He’s not a true PG in the traditional sense but he’s young and athletic, capable defender, can shoot and handle the ball and is on a rookie contract. He’s still got room to grow on the defensive end but he’s quick and long enough to be the point of attack defender that we need to guard 1’s & 2’s in the starting unit.

Not sure what it would take to get him away from the Knicks perhaps Reggie for him & walker mite do it.

I understand Mook and Zu are probably average quality starters, so there is room for improvement there, but the depth at those positions (assume RoCo, Batum, and Hart are back) just makes it more difficult to find playing time for someone else at those positions. Especially with RoCo and Batum also probably spending time at center in the playoffs. Obviously if you can get a John Collins level player, yes you do that over a point guard, but I just feel like those kind of guys are going to be a difficult get over guys like Brogdon and Rozier based on their contracts. I’m confused why the Hawks would trade Collins, especially for a position for position swap. I get he has a huge contract, but they’re trying to compete and don’t see why they’d take an older Mook back (I’m guessing you’re talking adding value in picks/Mann/Boston/Kennard).

Sure Minny and Chicago could use Mook, but who are they sending back? Certainly not a PF/C. Is Lonzo going to be available? PatBev? haha.

I feel like this team would be better off with an upgrade at the point and Reggie off the bench. Or even like another average quality player (ie. Rozier) would get actual playing time on this team.

I wonder what Bledsoe and Rubio will get on the open market. Bled I assume will be released with his minimal guarantee. Is he a near minimum guy now? Rubio’s injury makes him an interesting pickup for a team who probably won’t see him until 2023?

One I wasn’t THAT sold on Phoenix to begin with. Sure they racked up a ridiculous amount of wins, but so many of those were close and in the clutch. Yes, I understand they had the best point differential in the league, but only 0.1 points better than like the 51 win Celtics. Worse than a typical #1 seed/64 win team. They’re an average 3-pt shooting team, they’re an average team around the basket, and rely on a ton of midrange jump shots. Don’t get me wrong, they’re awesome defensively and a worthy #1 seed, but would you be as scared of them if they were like a 57 win team instead of a 64 win team?

Then like we see in the playoffs, one injury can turn everything around. Clipper fans should be more than aware of the dangers of relying on a healthy Chris Paul to make a deep playoff run.

Still think Phoenix pull out this series (mostly because I’m not high on the Pelicans either), but really think a healthy PG (haven’t heard about his COVID status) Clippers team would’ve given Phoenix a series.

I think Mook has value to lower seeded playoff teams that you are trying to move up. Both Minny and Chicago could use upgrades at PF. Also a team like Philly would love to have a guy like Mook at PF. Could you imagine Harden being able to drive & kick to shooters like Mook & Harris in the corners.

And if we could drum up a viable trade package for John Collins … Atlanta would probably take Mook back because they will need either starting or backup PF.

More of a trade deadline move to me. We have to address our dearth of rebounding at the 4/5 first. Boucher is an interesting target if he’d be willing to make the same money he did this year for the ring (TPMLE). He might have more value to us than Toronto in that price range and the difference in offers could be minimal.

Trading Mook isn’t very realistic—at least in any meaningful way. And with all the load management we will be navigating we will need a reliable plug and play offensive weapon what knows the system. We need to make a serious run at the 1 or 2 seed and can’t squander games in route to doing so.

Phoenix is in trouble with Booker’s hammy and heading back to NOLA. I especially love that all the Laker trolls dissing us have to process how great Ingram is now. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen to us with Shai:-)

Now we’re going to have to listen all the hype about the Warriors being back until Memphis steamrolls them.

Morris seems like the obvious guy who may be on the move, with hopefully Nico and Roco in the fold. But problem hard finding a deal that’s going to perfectly match his salary without giving up a other meaningful contributors to the Clippers.

For example, Brogdon is an obvious potential target as a good player who may be moved just due to his contract, but one-for-one with Morris I don’t think works. Clips don’t have any other guys you would just “throw” in the trade to get the salaries to work. You could do Morris and Kennard for Brogdon and McConnell. Feels like Indy would jump at that to get off of both those contracts a year early, but given Brogdon’s injury history, do you really give up Kennard in that deal? Seems pretty risky to me.

Rozier for Morris would work straight up, and might be interesting for both teams. But that is a lot of contract to take back, and a player I’ve never really been a fan of.

Does Cleveland finally move Kevin Love after missing the playoffs? Is like Luke and Morris for Kevin Love really an upgrade enough? doesn’t really fill a position of need, but he’s still a pretty solid rebounder if you think that’s the need. After a bounce back season, and his contract finally expiring, feels like maybe they could get more for Love too.
