Feels like he has all the tools and a bag of moves to be an elite scorer in the league, but the hardest thing to do in this league is to be able to do it consistently.

My one worry is something Alex Caruso said about guys not making it out of the g-league because they’re auditioning to be the CEO when the team is looking for a janitor. Brandon Boston has all the tools and looks to be an elite scorer in the league, but with his draft position, it’s going to be hard for him to earn minutes and the long leash to work through the tough times. Unless he improves his efficiency and consistency, he’s still probably not an NBA player. You can have the most pretty stepback in the league, but if you only make the shot 30% of the time, you’re probably not going to get the opportunity to shoot that shot in the NBA. As a 38% FG / 30% 3P shooter, you’re probably in the G-League, 42% FG / 35% 3P shooter you’re probably a JR Smith kind of 6th man, and as a 48% FG / 38% 3P shooter, you can be Kobe Bryant.

Boston has a lot of time to grow, so hopefully he can at least get to that 6th man level player, but I still think he might have higher upside than even that, which is crazy to say for a 51st pick. I mean the shooting percentages he put up this year are pretty much the same as a rookie Kevin Durant who turned into one of the best shooters in league history. Boston had enough flashes of being a legitimate scorer when given consistent minutes, that I still have pretty high hopes for him, but really we have no idea. I legitimately feel like right now his career comps could range from Vander Blue or Marshon Brooks to James Harden or Kevin Durant.

A developmental staff’s dream project. However, if no appreciable progress this season, I’d look elsewhere.

He will be one of the main contributor on our team for years to come.
Will root for him to succeed.

If the basket gets just a tad bigger for him watch out.
