You don’t trade just to consolidate, that’s dumb. I can see for salary cap purposes or team improvement. To get rid of players to “consolidate” is irrational. This is a potentially championship year. See what what we have and if needed use our talent to shore up deficiencies. Let’s see what we’ve got for this year. Depth is necessary because an ACL injury usually means a player in year 2 is back to normal.. year 1 is full of ups and downs. So we will need all of our players as KL returns to full strength.

But given what Utah was looking for, I don’t think they wanted anything we have. I mean … All they want is Olynyk and a trade exception? I don’t think they would have wanted TWO veteran contracts in a trade. (however, would Detroit have wanted us as a 3rd team in the deal?)

But, highly agree that he should be used sparingly based on age, depth and the miles he put on his chassis last year. Again and as I keep saying, we only sniff the promised land if both stars emerge relatively unscathed.

I doubt there is much for Jackson to do to increase his trade value. Even if he was able to become a more valuable trade piece than Kennard, Mann or Wall (I highly doubt it; he is probably most valuable on our team playing under Ty Lue and next to PG and Batum), he’s done so much for this team over the past couple years that I would probably hesitate the most regarding trading him out of these 4 guys (Kennard and Mann have done a great job buying in too, but Reggie is on another level to me).

As I generally see the first half of this season as an opportunity to show case guys for a consolidation trade later in the season as well as an opportunity to rest PG and Leonard, I don’t see any value in playing Reggie meaningful minutes until Jan/Feb. We’re deep enough to win games with almost any line up we can put out and Reggie is great off the bench too. Let’s instead give Kennard, Mann and Wall a chance to sine and save Reggie for a playoff run.
