I would like him to be the defensive gelling agent for the Clippers in every game. Rebounding, defensive pressure, disrupting the lanes.
Scoring will come easier when the opponents have to worry about Kawhi, Norm, Wall and all the shooters.

Finally if Kawhi plays more as PF this year, it could help PG too since SF/point forward suits him better.

For a guy who I thought did a better than decent job for our team he really fell off the map. We got out of that relationship at exactly the right time, I’ll give our FO that one for sure.

These guys are really a team and I think it helps that you don’t have one of these guys coming out and taking spotlight for the team’s accomplishments. These guys keep their heads down and work on their game. I love it!

Their continued commitment to the team has been a stabilizing factor for me, especially considering all of the health issues we’ve had.

  1. He is very streaky. Focusing on his season averages overlooks the fact that he has long stretches where he is killing us. Additionally, I don’t have any stats to back this up, but I feel like it’s not so frequent that PG get’s hot when we need him to. I feel like his best stretches are when it doesn’t matter as much. He’s had some memorable great games for sure, but I feel like I remember series where he would only play great in games where we were way ahead anyway and he played poorly in games when it was close and we would have won with stellar play from him.
  2. His defense comes and goes. In his true prime, PG was a top 2-3 wing defender in the league. That’s the guy we traded for a couple years back, but it’s not the guy he’s been since joining the team. If PG and Leonard played to their respective peaks defensive prowess, we would be the best team in the league. Their 1-2 step declines in defense, to me, shows that they are past their prime.
  3. Similar to Blake Griffin, PG is a pretty sloppy passer. He generally know when to pass and who to pass it to, but often times the pass is a little lazy. The ball doesn’t have enough zip, and it doesn’t go directly to the recipient’s strike zone. This causes the team to lose rhythm/momentum and decreases our chances of scoring. When the ball zips right to the center of the recipient (SGA was a pretty good passer), we tend to score more easily. With PG, the recipients usually need to recover the ball by reaching. The lag in timing and loss of positioning stalls our offense.
  4. PG’s interior scoring is super sloppy for someone who gets to the basket as easily as he does. The hardest part of scoring at the rim is getting there against a defender you have a size advantage against. PG is awesome at that, but for some reason, after he does the hard part, he often doesn’t succeed at the easy part by finishing. Elite small players (steph sticks out to me) often succeed where PG fails by mastering a soft touch and managing to get the ball in despite having larger defenders on them or despite them being off balance. So many time PG gets there, but seems to lose focus on getting the ball in the hope.

What I want to see from PG this season is:

  1. Improved scoring efficiency. Drive just as much (or more), but generally take fewer shots and really focus on getting the ball in the hoop. The pressure he puts on defenses is great, but he needs to convert more offend.
  2. Improve passing accuracy. Every pass needs to have purpose to it. Passing should just be a way to bail on a possession. PG needs to pass with more intent. I know this isn’t easy, but it would open up our game tremendously if PG had a little more focus
  3. Play faster. PG would be a terror for opposing defenses if he didn’t give them time to get set. We’re too big, too fast and too good at shooting to not take advantage by picking up the tempo. This would improve our rebounding as well as our ability to effectively space the floor.

In general, PG gets really sloppy when he is fatigued, like especially sloppy. I think similar to Leonard, we should be heavily managing PGs load so that he is fully rested when we need him. I think more rest, and fewer possessions would help him improve on the above. It’s really hard to focus on accuracy when you are asked to do so much. Let’s use PG less and really push him to focus on accuracy/efficiency. With our depth, we don’t need him to carry a massive load throughout the year.

Guess some folks don’t want to PO PG13 but it’s a weakness (2.7 career avg). Sure he handles the ball a lot but maybe he shouldn’t. Some 6’8″ guys think that since Magic was a snazzy ball handler they can be too. But Magic was a one off. Clips would be much better served to let the guards handle and distribute. PG13 is a superb shooter and slasher–play to that strength.

He plays his heart out and seems to be so proud of being a Clips.
Hope he gets a ring or 2 and cement himself as a true legend for us.

Everyone is a professional and appears to be comfortable with each other.

PG13’s friendships around the league probably landed us Reggie and Wall. Kawhi arguably helped get Serge, but we all know he didn’t work out w/ us. Also PG13 (and the rest of the team) stepped up after Kawhi got hurt in the Jazz series and have helped shoulder the load w/o him ever since.

Of course I expect Kawhi to remind everyone this season why we were so ecstatic when he joined all those years ago, but I can at least see why some fans feel more of a connection to PG13 for now.
