If he does stay, I hope he gets used every now and then.

He was the only player that didn’t play a single minute in the playoffs.

You can’t get ’em all right but picking at 27/33 you’d at least hope to find Sindarius Thornwell-level guys who have some ability but not quite enough utility to become contributors… eventually you get a Terance Mann who takes an unexpected leap and becomes a quality NBA guy.

So if they’d “missed” on those two picks in a Thornwell/Jawun Evans type manner, it happens at that stage in the draft. To draft two guys who pretty blatantly have nothing to offer an NBA team w/o reason to believe they can develop significantly is a pretty rough indictment. Fi I think folks at least generally thought upside was/is there due to his shooting, but ultimately he was a stretch big who wasn’t a good shooter. Oturu is a guy who many people (including Rob, who watched him play a lot in college because he’s in the same conference as Michigan) were wondering what the hell the Clippers were watching.

So, Lucas, the FO guessed wrong on Fi/Oturo. Is that a “pretty rough indictment” of the FO in your book or just “can’t get ’em all right” in this biz.

I don’t think anyone has personal animosity but I do think it’s going to take a massive turnaround for him to be an nba contributor.

It’s also pretty significant that when the team had injuries ahead of him at his position, there wasn’t even a thought that he’d be capable of being a competent fill-in for some 2nd unit regular season minutes. Instead, they had to play guys out of position and eventually use a roster spot on a different third stringer and bump him to 4th string.

Again, that’s not personal hate towards Daniel the dude, but it’s a pretty rough indictment of his capabilities in the NBA.

Regarding Oturu, personally it’s not hate towards him – it’s annoyance w/ the FO for taking yet another PF/C who doesn’t look like he’ll be ready to contribute anytime soon, if at all, especially when Xavier Tillman (who’s already NBA ready) and Theo Maledon (who looks pretty good and plays a position of need for us) were taken right after him.

Doesn’t mean Oturu’s a bust and can’t work out, but it’s just frustrating that we essentially got no production out of Oturu and Fi – it puts a huge burden on the other guys when the team is hard capped and its young guys aren’t ready and able to sop up any meaningful minutes.

Nothing much to say about PatPay except that if we’ve got a roster spot I’d like him around as a veteran presence.

But why the hate for Oturu? I don’t think he’s had enough opportunity for this amount of negativity.

I’d be fine w/ bringing 2Pat back (probably on a minimum deal), but we shouldn’t panic and sign him immediately like we did last offseason when we lost JMG and Trez and weren’t sure about getting Ibaka yet. The FO needs to explore any and all trade possibilities first to figure out what direction to take the team in, and then after the big moves are settled they can circle back to 2Pat.
