I mean pretty much everyone assumed that it was going to take double the length of contract to get Reggie to stay.

The fact they were able to keep him on a 2 year deal means even IF he crazy regresses to the mean, for what he’s already done for the Clips in his tenure, he’d already be worth what they’re paying him for the next 2 years.

Was definitly wrong as well.

Having said that I was also one of the fools who was for the Rondo trade—a move that still stings given that I honestly believe Lou might have been enough for us to take out the Suns even without Kawhi. We could have at least gotten one of the two robberies and pushed it to 7.

There is always a little worry his 3pt% will regress to the mean, but he’s been well over 40% from 3 for 1.5 years with the Clips, which is a pretty large sample size at this point. I thought he played well enough in his 1st stint with the Clips to deserve an above minimum deal, so getting him for the min last season was a bargain. Really happy they were able to retain him.

I feel like I want to go back and watch the games he started in the regular season. Always felt like he was just playing as a stopgap starter while PatBev was injured, but really wasn’t the real starting PG for this team. It’s easy to forget he was probably more viewed as like the 3rd string PG for the majority of the season, but was just forced into the starting lineup due to injury. With the new perspective after the playoffs and having him really grab that starting role, I think it would give a new view on his play throughout the regular season. Obviously his play in the playoffs was incredible, but I’m not sure we can count on getting that Reggie for 82 games next season.

I still think in an ideal world, you are able to find an upgrade over Reggie as a starter, but if he’s going to continue to hit 43% from 3, with the ability to create shots for himself and knock down the catch and shoot 3’s, especially in the clutch, it’s going to be very very hard for someone to edge him out of that spot. Really might take an all-star caliber player to come for that spot.

That were adamant about bringing Reggie back for the minimum after the bubble collapse. I mean for the minimum who else did people really want to sign. ?
It hindsight when Reggie first arrived his first couple games he was knocking down 3’s efficiently ,
Then covid hit and any team chemistry that the team did have, ( Reggie didn’t have much and seemed to just want to fit in and not do to much) along with doc rivers and his stupid hard headedness to adjust and let the offense just do the most predictable, while also letting Lou will and Trez get torched 24/7 definitly had an impact on the clippers and Reggie.

Now nobody knew Reggie would turn it on how he did but credit to Reggie for stepping up and credit ty Lue for for having the foresight and balls to put Reggie in a position to succeed .
Imo Reggie and batum are incredible players but not all coaches or systems are built for these guys. Definitly a win win for them and the org. Fan base .
Easy A
A+ from me

Last season he was a mid-season mercenary who didn’t know his teammates and would take it to the hoop one-on-three.

But after an offseason he learned how to play with these guys. And everybody roughed him up about it.

He looked like a trainwreck in the bubble, but that was a very peculiar situation, and Reggie was already unfamiliar w/ the team given that he joined midseason after getting bought out and then the season almost immediately went on hiatus. Looks like an (albeit shortened) offseason with the team, and having a coach who’s actually willing to adjust the gameplan based on guys’ strengths/weaknesses instead of just playing favorites has done wonders for Reggie.

Good contract length, appropriate value, sentimental favorite, what’s not to like about this? Solid A.

But who can really blame the doubters as Reggie started this past season abysmally. His decision making on open court action was hard to stomach, let alone watch. But then, somehow, he managed to flip a switch in his brain. He became a reliable starter and an eye popping clutch shooter who broke the spirit of many opponents. The true story of what led to that brain switch would be very interesting to know but I’m just guessin there was one key teammate or coach who played an integral part in engineering this metamorphosis.
