I know in the bigman trade targets post, I wasn’t all that in favor of making a major trade for one of the guys above Plumlee (Poeltl, Christian Wood). Plumlee was near top of my list of guys that could be had for minimal return and actually surprised all it took was like a 2nd round pick.

My only criticism is I probably more related to their other deals, in that I think they could’ve gotten this done with like a TPE or John Wall. If you want to move Luke/Wall for EJ and Bones, I have my own concerns with that move, but I get it had to be done salary wise to take on EJ’s contract. But specifically in regards to Reggie for Plumlee, I think they could’ve just kept Reggie if they really wanted. I know the tax implications are probably maybe too crazy to just take on Plumlee for the TPE, but still feels like they gave Reggie away for nothing. Maybe even could’ve just had like Luke and Coffey go out in the EJ deal, and Wall go out for Plums. Still probably a pretty big tax burden, but less than using the TPE entirely, and at least kept one PG on the roster, and off of another contender in the west.

He’s from Chicago and there is some need at the 1 there. Beyond that he will ring chase.

I think he’d be a good choice to fill that last roster spot for the Clippers. It would bridge the gap between the F.O and Lue/PG/Kawhi about the roster. He’s shooting the 3 at a pretty good clip and he can be a very good situational, matchup defender. He also improves the team’s rebounding and loose ball play. In addition, he’s tight with Zu, is an emotional leader and will give us a dawg mentality.

Some folks think T-Mann may end up going to the bench and Eric Gordon will be the starter. Lue sees Mann as more of a #3. How about playing Mann at the #2/3, PG at the 3, Kawhi at the 4 and moving Morris to the 2nd unit? Then, the 2nd unit could be Hyland, Powell, Batum, Morris, Plumlee, with PG/Kawhi/Mann staggered into that lineup in place of either Batum or Morris? Or, move Batum back into the starting rotation with EG, PG, Kawhi, Zu and have a 2nd unit of Hyland, Powell, Mann, Morris, Plumlee?

There are probably 7 to 10 Clipper losses that would’ve been victories with more playable 2nd unit lineups. With Plumlee back there now, we may actually win those types of games in the remaining portion of the regular season.
