and to not lose the ball (once he has it) by others poking it out of his “hands”
I’d say if iHart (assuming he’s retained) can foul less often, he’d edge Zu for the no. 1 big spot.

He needs to work on his hands to not drop passes. He needs to work on his diet and fitness to improve his quickness. A floater like iHart would make him quite deadly.

FWIW I do think the Jazz could probably still could’ve been contenders even w/ Gobert and Mitchell max deals on the books, but absolutely not w/ the rest of that supporting cast. They’ve got way too many one-dimensional/expose-able players on the roster to have any sort of prolonged success in the postseason.

Zu isn’t anywhere near a max guy, but I think he’s a steal on his current deal, and would only be a slight overpay if they straight up doubled his salary – $15M or so is just the going rate these days for like “average to above-average starter” level guys.

For his contract, Zu is phenomenal at what he does: play defense (in particular, his timing/spacing defending P&R is elite), set good screens, and rim roll.

With limited cap space you have to be smart. And the Jazz have shown us that an elite rim-rolling-center isn’t really where you want to allocate a ton of your cap space. The Clippers’ strategy of investing in wings, and having a solid anchor big to bolster the half-court defense, is a winning one. Now they just need to stay healthy.

Note my wife gives him a C+ or B-.

Because the guy basically can’t shoot facing the basket. He’s got a close in hook that’s only so so reliable. At least work on a bank shot, guy! He ought to spend some time watching Ayton’s offensive game. Lot to like and learn from there. Will he ever get there? Kinda doubt it.
