He’s a real asset.

I just don’t want him disappearing in games. He just needs to be aggressive.

Tap into his inner Jamal Crawford.

I think he is quietly a much bigger part of this unit than first meets the eye. With Amir gone we don’t really have a scoring 3 to backup Kawhi so we’ll have to manufacture some points while he’s either resting or injured. DJJ will be more than fine on D, but we’ll probably see quite a few three guard lineups using Bogi and CP3 throughout the season too. Playoffs not so much because if Kawhi can’t go then we’re kaput anyway.

Vying to be my favorite Clipper right now. I could consider that question more deeply, and I think I’d lean towards Zu. But Bogi was a surprising and refreshing replacement last year for another massive favorite, TMann.

And I was also intrigued by the way his game showed some of the shortcomings of guys who had seemed to be more complete players. The previous Clipper elite/A+ shooters (Luke Kennard, J.J. Redick) lacked the playmaking gene, while a Swiss Army guy like TMann didn’t shoot nearly enough or well enough (though TMann’s defense, all-around game, and playoff savvy was dearly missed against Denver.). Bogi had a lot more of a 3-level scorer/quick trigger 3-point shooter/playmaker game than I realized, and I didn’t really know how much it was missing from the Clipper attack, especially with the backup point guard issue. I’ll keep harping on the 880 Kevin Porter Jr. minutes, which are going to be a major difference from last season to this one.

Bogi is an elite player, with leadership qualities that are evident on the Serbian team, and his injury cost them a FIBA title. Jokic worked some weird Serb mojo on him in the playoff series, where he seemed cursed and flustered. I put that down to being on a new team that didn’t have its post-ASB/trade deadline identity fully forged, Norm trying to come back, Dunn and DJJ getting sliced up by grim reaper Jokic. But now they’re all back, with a couple more true assassins in our squad, and a full season to forge that identity.

It’s all about depth. Kind of funny how the first instance of the Clippers depth being put to use was Bogi’s FIBA injury–he’s the perfect guy to get hurt first. Another way to look at him right now is as a luxury item. He’s going easy at the beginning of camp but it looks like he’s going to be available for the start of the season. My guess is that there’s going to be a revolving door of old (and younger) guys getting tweaked and missing games here and there, and the general effect will simply be to spread out the minutes and look around for the most effective lineups. Having Bogi sitting there chilling next to Nico Batum is very high level stuff. Bogi will be filling the Amir Coffey slot, is my guess, and with his overall game and playmaking it’s a big upgrade. He had some great games and he was really fun to watch as the Clippers went on their rise and extra strong run to the finish last season. He can ignite the team, and there will be more weapons for him to exploit on this roster–it’s going to be fun to see him play with Chris Paul and Brook Lopez. We got a great and fun look at the Bogi experience last season, and I can’t wait to see more.
