Zu should have been DPOY. I’m convinced that a lot of folks who watch NBA basketball have no idea how to rate defense. Some of the folks that made all defensive first and second teams really shouldn’t be there.

OKC has run circles around Minnesota in these first 2 games.

Big issue for Minnesota is their insistence on playing Donte DiVincenzo. He’s legit terrible. He can’t dribble, pass, defend or win a loose ball. Every time it looked like Minnesota was going to get some traction in this game, it seemed like he got exploited at both ends. -27 with him on the court, +12 off. Jaylen Clark is sitting right there. He has played well against OKC and looked pretty good in the mins he had on the floor in Game 1. It’s probably already too late for Minnesota in this series but sitting DiVincenzo and going with more athletic and physical players like Clark would be what they’d need to do to have a shot to make this a 2-2 series.

Minnesota doesn’t seem to have enough in their half court offense to challenge OKC. Maybe things change when they return to Minnesota, but I’m having a hard time seeing anything more than a gentleman’s sweep or a 6 game series.

If Amir didn’t play such bad defense, we would offer him another contract.

I’m just disgruntled today with seeing the inevitable OKC championship coming to form.

Shaking my head why we pay these old players $50M/year, they get injured and destroy our team for multiple seasons.

I’m in basketball “dark place” now.

We are lucky to have Zu.
He might become the most important player for us next season.
…
I was sad to see T-Mann gone. And Coffey might not be here soon.
Zu is the closest thing as home grown talent for us.
Hope he show the part way for the younger guys and they step up to show their worth.
Let’s see how it goes.

Amir was a traffic cone on defense and he needed to be in lineups where he had protection. That said, if Ty were able to conjure up the Dec/Jan version of Amir for the playoff series vs Denver, we probably win if he starts w/DJJ and Norm/Dunn move to the 2nd unit. Our starting 5 really needed credible offense from all 5 players. Starting 5 also needed better discipline to stop being baited by the shots the opponents wants you to take instead of being patient and working the ball with the dribble, pass, and off ball movement to get better shots.

I think the thing with Amir was near the end of the season he couldn’t seem to defend without fouling. That led to him being benched. I don’t know if they’d rather have the additional cap room, or if they want to bring him back. He’s probably still one of my fav Canoes from a couple years ago. As Rob pointed out, he’s certainly the best non-drafted Clipper ever. He should have been drafted instead of Oturu for sure.
