The Clippers’ 82-game schedule will be
A) 16 games vs division opponents (4 each)
B) 30 games vs East opponents (2 each)
C) 34 games vs non-Pacific West opponents (3 each for 6, 4 each for 4)
D) 2 games TBD based on in-season Tournament

Those base 80 games (A-C) will be released in August with no rescheduling based on the results of the in-season tournament. We’ll play 4 group games in November, all games from category C because we have no division opponents in our group. Playing the Nuggets, Pelicans, Mavericks, and Rockets each once in November could easily happen in a normal year without us batting an eye. In fact, last year we had played all of them by 11/25, including the Rockets 3 times!

Let’s say we win our group and play Utah and GSW in the knockout games, as you mentioned. In that world, we would keep our other 4 scheduled matchups vs GSW and play the Warriors 5 times next season (and the Jazz 3/4+1 times, depending on if they are a 3-game or 4-game conference opponent in the base 80-game schedule). They wouldn’t go into the schedule and take away a future Warriors game so that we only play them the standard 4 times for a division opponent.

But my concerns was that the NBA stated that the group play games would be represented by games that occur within the first few weeks of the season (by November 28th). That is, the initial schedule will take into account which teams are in the Clippers “group” and set those up by 11/ 28 with the proper home and away structure. But let’s say they play the Jazz in the first knockout round and GSW in the 2nd (which won’t be known until after 11/28). Sure, we know that they’ll play the Jazz and 3 or 4 times this season. But how will they build the schedule to ensure that there will certainly be a Warriors game later in the season after a Jazz game … and so on and so on for every possible combination of knock out games?

So right now it’s 82:
Division: 4 opponents x 4 games each = 16
Non-division conference: (4 opponents x 3 games each = 12) + (6 opponents x 4 games each = 24)
Non-conference: 15 opponents x 2 games each = 30

I would guess that they’ll build a base 80-game schedule with the following:
Division: 4 opponents x 4 games each = 16
Non-division conference: (6 opponents x 3 games each = 18) + (4 opponents x 4 games each = 16)
Non-conference: 15 opponents x 2 games each = 30

Your 4 “group play” games are built into that 80.
Games 81 and 82 will either be your knockout games (quarters and semis/loser semis, only against conference opponents) or your consolation games to make it up to 82.
If you are one of the 8 teams in the knockouts, you play against whoever you’re bracketed against. This means that if it’s a division opponent or one of the conference teams you’re already slated to see 4 times in the regular season, you would get a 5th game against that team.
If you are one of the 22 teams in the consolation games, they’re going to match people up with an eye on travel, scheduling, etc. They are going to prioritize focusing on getting you a 4th game vs conference teams you play 3x, but it’s not guaranteed. This means that you could play someone from your conference a 5th time, or someone from the other conference a 3rd time. For us on the West Coast, it’s unlikely that we’d ever get a 3rd game against an East team. But someone like Minnesota getting Chicago or Memphis getting Atlanta makes sense. It’s far more likely that they’ll only schedule 3 games for us against someone like Portland or Utah, and then have us play those teams a 4th time for our consolation.

I get that the “group play” round will be incorporated in the regular season schedule. But the “knock out” round games at also going to be part of the regular season. So how are they going to build the entire season schedule in September when those games are going to have unpredictable opponents?

Need to watch the highlights but Summer League is generally looking for the potential – how does their form look, are they in the right places rather than numbers. Whereas the players just seem to care about the stats. Understandably as most of them are fighting for a limited number of contracts.

If Ainge supplanted Mitchell with Keyonte George and he’s actually this good it will be among the greatest and most memorable GM moves in history. Wow.

Moon once again looks like a legit 3rd string NBA point guard. Hope someone inks him. KB wasn’t great or totally terrible but at least wasn’t as slow as I feared. Smart player. Let’s get another couple of look sees. Moose was erratic but looked as if he would be a lot better playing with actual nba players. It seemed like he was on an island without much help in the paint on both ends.

Was happy to see Terence Court side. Anything is possible these days but those are good tea leaves that we aren’t shipping him out. Can’t wait to see he and KJ run the floor together.

Moose only looks good on D. Morgan showing some flashes. Preston meh. Box score says Miller is playing, but where is he?
