It would be interesting to see if he can guard actual NBA guys at 185 lbs but his defensive rotations were good and it seems like he can make plays off of closeouts.

SL Clips win! Game ball to Brodric Thomas. Took 3 charges against Lofton, who is easily one of the 5 biggest players in the NBA by weight/size. Got robbed on at least 1 or 2 more block/charge calls. Deflected passes. Stout defense against a bigger Memphis front lone. Took on a defender 1 v 1 and got to the rack with a beautiful double pivot move w/an up and under layup. Got a nice layup finish in traffic, hit 2 open 3s, including 1 off an ankle breaking bounce, and made a great drive to the basket with a hesitation stutter step, delivered an on target pass to Xavier Moon in the corner for big time 3 late in Q4, and made a great iso spin move for a midrange J with less than a minute left to give the Clips breathing space. That he did all of this two way play while listed as a 6’5″ 185 lb guard is impressive.

Gotta say, so far these SL Clippers are holding their own defensively against a Memphis team that features 2 guys with big time size who got a lot of minutes on the floor for Memphis this past season in Roddy and Lofton. This Castañeda kid can really shoot. Easy, compact delivery. Rises straight up. Good form. Gets a nice loft on the ball.

I’ll be working from home so I’ll be tuned in. I’d really like to see more from Preston. But as you said (and great preview btw) the other guys will probably get a look. Preston is just way too tentative. I get he’s a pass first guy but at the same time he never looks to try to get his own shot either. Also can’t really seem to get by his defenders either. Couldn’t he at least try to run pick and rolls? Bring the ball up, demand a screen try to get off a middy or dump it off? CP can’t get past most guys but does it on a regular. Obviously CP is a special PG so I’m not asking that but give us something instead of passing every possession. Then again I ain’t that knowledgeable. Hope we get a win though. More wins means more chances for more games/reps for Summer League Playoffs.

Would like to see a little less of Moussa in this game (maybe 15 min) and more of Kobe Brown, Jordan Miller, Matt Morgan and Jason Preston. Would like to see Preston stop using his first step or jab step to set up a pass and instead go past or through a defender. Xavier Moon should play to showcase him for the league so that he might get a look. He’s just a guy who plays the game the right way, is a really skilled player and is an easy dude to root for.
