Like others have commented, Russ and Bones are a big upgrade over John Wall and Reggie. Plus, the entire team starts healthy.

I’m trying to be more optimistic. This season cannot be as crappy as 2022-2023.

The question is whether their ceiling has gone up at all, and my answer is probably not

I believe Ty was extended an extra year, wasn’t he?

Last year’s team was barely able to beat 500 teams that came into Staples on 2nd night of B2B. If it weren’t for our dominance of the Lakers, we would have probably been at 500 last season.

Even with the marginal improvements made, this team’s ceiling is play-in tournament bound.

IMO, I think the FO and Ballmer know the championship window is closed and are willing to let PG13, KL and Ty contract’s ride out. If this team were serious about contending, then Marcus Morris wouldn’t be on this team and they would have traded for a younger and more athletic power forward. They haven’t done shit this offseason to address the biggest weakness on this team.

Mark my words, Morris will start and this team will barely hang around 500.

He’s 29 and signed a 5-year, $160M contract just this past offseason. I mean I suppose that should theoretically make him gettable for peanuts, but like, if the FO is reluctant to commit to 213, Norm, and others long-term I can’t imagine they’d be willing to trade for Grant when he has that kind of contract.

Brogdon & Timelord is also a good trade candidate for us, albeit with a bit confusing role on the team.
Let’s see how Portland view us as their trade partner.
Not really sure how to deal with GM like Morey, so Harden is not my top priority for the upgrade.

Hence we shouldn’t expect a trade anytime soon. Still, when we compare what we have to start this season compared to last it’s a pretty huge difference. Westbrook and Hyland alone is much better than a washed Wall and a washing Reggie. We have a second competent 7 footer in Plumlee and Kawhi will be in much better from out of the gates too. Denver is still the gold standard but after that I think we could prove to be about as good as anyone else. If Ty does stick with Mook hopefully he won’t hurt us too badly since he knows the system. Making a trade for Jerami Grant in January might be the underground move no one has really talked about much. Slotting a younger more athletic 4 into the fold is a lot more seamless than trying to add a superstar wing or play maker. Should be pretty affordable too with portland looking to dump that contract.

Looked good in SL, didn’t back down from Luka in pre-season. (IIRC)
Dominate in G-League, get more playing time in his second year and explode in ’21 playoffs. (That Utah Game)
I genuinely think he is the 4th or 5th most important players on the team, that’s incredible for the 48th pick that many GMs missed out. 🙂
Dude will be the ultimate glue guy on any contending team.
I think he’s as versatile / valuable as his best friend Bruce Brown.
I want us to hold on to him and give him chance to shine.
Hope I can enjoy rooting for him for years to come.
A couple years from I wish I can say this similar stories with Kobe Brown. 🙂

Other teams should want him.
