Zu has been rock solid for this team for years. He may not be an elite C, but he does all the little things you could want given this roster’s construction – he’s basically our Kevon Looney. I’ve been hoping he could take a step forward offensively for a while now, but at this point I’m not expecti him to suddenly turn into KAT. The only thing that kinda concerns me is his FT shooting – he shoots a decent %, but it’s been on a downward trend compared to early in his career and it feels like the arc on his shot is getting flatter and flatter. Just getting his FT% back up to around 75% or so would be a big help.

On an unrelated note: according to Grief, the entire roster except Zu, Batum, and MM attended “mandatory” workouts in Vegas organized by Russ this offseason. Zu and Batum were out of the country, but apparently MM just didn’t show up. Which, actually is really encouraging to me. I hope MM tries to stir up shit and it finally helps snap Ty outta his 1.5 year long trance of forcefeeding him minutes.

Zu is, in my opinion, the 3rd most important player on the team, behind only 213.
I mean, our superstar wing duo can do all on the court.
But the last thing you want them to do is banging in the paint with guys like Jokic, Embiid or Giannis of the worlds. (Even though Kawhi won’t have problem doing that on some plays, but not for all game long)
I believe Kawhi, PG, Zu and T-Mann should play the most minutes. You can slot the 5th guy with any option you want (Russ or Bones for lead guard // Norm, Batum or Roco for wings // and even Coffey or KJM for younger guys with size), all depends on the match up.

I was surprised that Zu didn’t make a recent top 24 centers list. Like many here I was alarmed at how iron his hands were early on but that’s not the case anymore and he’s just overall very good and definitely a starting center on a championship team built around stars at other positions (Luke Longley?). I’ve always believed there was a corollary between a Big’s free throw percentage and their ability to shoot from mid to deep. He’s been north of 70% for awhile now and I’d like to allow him to launch a few to see what might be there.

I would add mid-range and 3pt shooting to his weaknesses. It may be that Ty simply doesn’t allow him to take those shots, but until he does and makes them at a decent clip he hurts spacing.
