I think Lopez knew they’d trade him if he opted in, so he opted out so he can re-sign (or walk) and control his own destination. Choosing control over the money. FWIW, he’s made 85M in his career and the difference between his option and vet’s min next year is 5M vs 2.7M. He’s 32 and will turn 33 mid-season, and with how he’s slowing down he might not have very many ring chasing years left. I think it makes sense.

After everybody blows there load we will be able to make some conservative moves . I mean we couldnt have expected to sign one of these big names, we blew our load last summer for kawhi and rated-g13!
Worst comes to worst we stand pat, let Trez walk, opening up full mle and bae,
Split mle between Dunn and rondo and use bae on Dwight or Noel or gasol
